Edward “Eddie” Wilson Barnette, 58, passed away, on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division. Born February 26, 1964, in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late George R. and Betty Joan Angel Barnette who survives in Gallipolis. He loved his family and friends and became an important part of our community. He was a role model for many and a leader for others.

Eddie graduated from Gallia Academy high school in the summer of 1982. He was on the first wrestling team in school history and continued to show his support to the sport of wrestling for years to come. He started the Crossface Club for Gallia Academy wrestling. Every week he would provide the wrestler of the week t-shirts for the student athletes, who performed at the highest level. He was a Blue Devil at heart!

In 1994, Eddie began working for what is now called Constellium Aluminum and built a wonderful career for himself. He was a proud member of the United States Steel Workers Local 5668. He served as a Union official for many years before becoming president of the Local 5668 in 2018. As president of the largest Union in West Virginia, Eddie worked passionately for his union family and the retirees.

One of the most important parts of Eddie’s life was his family. In addition to his mother, Betty he is survived by his wife, Susan Randolph Barnette whom he married on June 25, 2001 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Their six children. William Joshua (Tomichelle) Duty, Sarah Anne Duty, Lacey Angel Barnette, Jacob Michael (Bridget) Duty, Maranda Rose (Nick) Wilson, and Brandon Shane (Skyelee) Taylor, grandchildren, McKenna Richards, Zayne Duty, Kasen Duty, Alex Wilson, Jackson Duty, and Wyatt Duty, a brother, Eric W. (Melissa) Barnette, and numerous nieces and cousins also survive.

He impacted many lives, and we will cherish these memories forever.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, with Pastor Alfred Holley and Pastor Randy Carnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Mina Chapel Cemetery. Brandon Taylor, Jake Duty, Josh Duty, Nick Wilson, Nathan Nelson, Brian Wedge, Tim Davies, and Damon Totten will serve as casketbeares. Friends may call on Monday starting at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Eddie’s memory to the United Steelworkers Local 5668, 52 NU Chance Dr. Ravenswood, West Virginia, 26164
