Text

Born February 22, 1933, Bobby Cline was a proud West Virginian, happy to tell people he was from the community of Ethel in Logan County, and happier to talk to familiar folks about what he remembered from growing up there. He leaned on the positive memories of life in Southern West Virginia where he was a boxer and Golden Gloves champion. His skills were opportunities that took him into the service where he boxed for the United States Navy and tended bar (and cared for the bar’s de-scented pet skunk) during the Korean War.
After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Ravenswood, West Virginia, applying for work at the new Kaiser Aluminum plant. He started there in 1957 in accounting and worked for over 46 years before retiring from Constellium Rolled Products in 2004. Bob was dedicated to work and left every morning before sunup, returning home hours later for dinner.
While working at Kaiser, Bob met Sue Critchfield who was the love of his life, and the two were married in 1958; July, 2023, would have marked 65 years of marriage together. They had two daughters, Elissa and Stephanne, and Bob focused on work and family as the priorities in his life.
Bob was generous and giving, putting other people’s needs before his own. Many knew him to help with people’s taxes or VEBA reimbursements. He always wanted to help the community that meant so much to him.
Bob passed away on January 10, 2023, and is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Sue (Critchfield) Cline; daughters, Elissa Cline, and Stephanne Cline Thornton (Richard); and brother, Alvis Cline (Barbara).
No services are planned at this time.
Memorials may be made in Bob’s honor to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 86 County Farm Road, Cottageville, WV 25239, or the First United Methodist Church, 719 Flinn Avenue, Ravenswood, WV 26164, where he was a proud member.
