new sidewalks, paving
By NANCY YOACHAM
Sentinel Stall Wrller
· Street paving and the possibil ity of new sidewalks were discussed at Monday evening's
Pomeroy Village Council
meeting.
Councilman Larry Wehrung
said he would like to see all new
sidewalks in downtown Pomeroy. especially since the village
expects to receive Community
Development Block Grant fund ing to provide handicap accessiblily at each downtown corner .
Mayor Richard Seyler agreed
that new sidewalks would greatly
improve the village's appearance, and reported that new
sidewalks, with handicap access,
will be installed in front of and
beside the new City Loan on the
corner of Sycamore and East
Main .
Elberfeld's Department Store
already has new sidewalks in
front of and behind the store, the

mayor added, and a few other
portions of downtown have ade·
qualr sidewalks. However. most
of the downt own sidewalks are
not adequate. and to ensure
las ting quality, present concr ete
should be removed befor e new
sidewalks would be installed.
"It 's not chea p," said Councilman John Anderson.
Alterna tives to fund new downtown sidewalks were discussed,
but no action was taken by the
board.
To ensure proper sid ewalk
elevations and sloping, and improve drainage, Anderson suggested that Main Street be
stripped down to the concrete to
obtain the origi nal road grad e.
Ma yor Seyler gave And erson
authorit y to check witli the Fis hel
Co., the contractor installing
lines down Main Street for
General Telephone Co. ofOhio, to
find out when they plan to repave
the portions of the street which
