COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP ) -Gov.
Richard Celeste says educatJon wUI

Speaking to a group of more than
600 representatives of the state's

Celeste said he would support a raise
In teachers' minimum salaries but
stopped short of endorsing a series of

salaries and hiking the per-pupU

"There's·no way we can cut taxes ·

need to do for educ~~tlon," Celeste
said. "We have to make education
absolutely the cornerstone of what
we do In this state."
State Super-Intendent of Public

the recOmmendations. The report
calls for thestateto require all pupUs

parents would decide whether to
enroll their children at age 5 or 6.
About $150 million is fntended to
counteract recent measures that
have eroded the local property and

Fascell said "It's entirely posst.

House leaders have yet to discuss
the Issue and no decisions have been

Under a compromise struck
between President Reagan and
Congress late In September, four

that killing It would save money ala

being made to trim the fe<;leral

Shultz told senators and House
members that the MX is essential to
national security, that It "simply
must go ahead," and that killing It
would have an adverse Impact on
the U.S. negotiating position.
• While refusing to describe the MX

they (the Soviets) can get what
they want out of us without giving

would love that."
At the private meeting, Shultz was
rewarded with a round of applause
that could be heard through the

A job well done

needed a place to live that was

need of love and attmtlon. I had

:Finally I couldn't stand It any

meaL I nevl'r dreamed that people
could treat a perfect stranger like
her with so much love and real
compassion and It really moved me
to tears.
Even though Larry was bad sick
he pitched ln to help make her very
welcome. She did not have one cent
of money to pay but that did not
matter to tht'm . The !ieopie where
she had been staying had always
spent her Social Security check just
four days alter receiving It, but they
took her ln. I noticed !bat every.
thing was spotless clean and
beautiful waxed floors. If anyone
has ever done a wonderfl!l job with
running that place It Is Sharon and
Larry. I don't feel I will ever have to
worry about that one lady again as
she has· a wonderful home at last
and a family who loves her, Thanks
so much again. You certainly are to
be COlTIJT1(>nded for a job well done.

He added: One lesson of the
Donovan background checks Is
" now In certain cases we ask the

"I thought you'd go back to

really mean It, try again to carry them through .
The trouble wlth trying to do better with your life and the glfts
God gave us Is we stumble and then just lie there. No matter how
sound or how bad a resolution may be, It Is only good !,[used. Writing
them down IS gQOd but putting them to use Is better. When we write
I hem down, they are for ourselves only, When we make use of them,
they are for a:· who .a re around us,
I do not' know If you even made any resolutions this year. If you
did, try to make use of them . If you did not make any, who not try
just a couple? I'll suggest one, atten<jlng church every Sunday. That ,
IS only 52 days outofa365dayyear. This IS only 14 percent of a year's
days. Say It takes two hours a day for churcn. That is only 1.1
percent of your 8,760 hours In a year. Secondly, you could give tithe
to your church. You may surprtse the treasurer and would show
God you care. It would surprise you· how the rest of your life would
change. For the better I mean too. Thirdly, do whal Bob Hoeflich
keeps telling you to do, "Keep Smiling." In case you don't know It,
au a smile Is, Is an upturned line that makes everyone seeing It feel
better.
ThE'se only ate a few small resolutions you could make. Not too
hard to follow but they w\11 only be good If used. Why not start today,
write something down and then see how many limes this entire year
you have made your resolutions good, because you used them .
Remember about resolutions, "Good ollly If used.';
