Kaiser workers ratify new contract
RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. - A contract calling for
modlllcatlons and concessions from United Steel·
workers of America membership employed at 12
Kaiser Aluminum &amp; Chernlc~l Corp. plants across the
nation has been m tlfled.
The union and Kaiser announced the ratification
jointly Tuesday. The vote was 3,373 for and 2,388
against, . with USWA Local 5668 at Kaiser's
· Ravenswood Works casting l,OOi of those votes.
A spokesperson for the local said Its president,Gene
Rlchafds, was In Spokane, Wash., where votes were
counted on Monday. Richards Is expected to be back
In the area Thursday.

The present contract with Kaiser, begun In June ·
1983. would have expired May 31, 1!186. The new

year to discuss concessions. Key aspects of the new
contract Include a total cost redUction totaling $4.50
per hour, an average wage reduction of$1.84 per hour,
loss of three paid holidays and modification "of
vacation time and health Insurance benefits.

product quality and customer service and reduce

As compensation for the Concessions, Kaiser will .

will kickoff the weekend activities with a concert from
5 to 6 p.m. Friday In the Larry R. Morrison Gym .
Following the concert, the hand will split Into groups of
