JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli archaeologists on
Tuesday announced the discovery of dozens of
Dead Sea Scroll fragments bearing a biblical text
found in a desert cave and believed hidden during
a Jewish revolt against Rome nearly 1,900 years
ago.
The fragments of parchment bear lines of Greek
text from the books of Zechariah and Nahum and
have been dated around the first century based on
the writing style, according to the Israel Antiquities Authority. They are the first new scrolls found
in archaeological excavations in the desert south
of Jerusalem in 60 years.

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Point Park University’s
Ed Pfluger hit a tie-breaking two-run home run in
the seventh inning and the Pioneers added a pair
of insurance runs in the eighth inning for an 8-4
win over the University of Rio Grande, Sunday
afternoon, in River States Conference baseball
action at Bob Evans Field.
The victory gave Point Park a win of the threegame weekend series as well after the Pioneers
posted a 5-2 win in Saturday’s back end of a
doubleheader which was suspended by darkness
after eight innings and resumed prior to Sunday’s
regularly scheduled contest.
Point Park finished the weekend at 10-7 overall
and 3-3 in conference play.
Rio Grande slipped to 8-16 overall and 1-5
inside the RSC.
The RedStorm trailed 4-0 after four innings in
Sunday’s regularly scheduled game, but forged
a tie by scoring twice in both the fifth and sixth
innings against PPU starter Marco Quintanar.
Sophomore Clayton Surrell (Carroll, OH) drove
in a fifth inning run with on a fielder’s choice
grounder to second, while senior Caden Cluxton
(Washington Court House, OH) did the same one
inning later. The other runs in each inning crossed
as a result of a throwing error.
Rio senior starting pitcher Trey Meade (Seaman, OH) was lifted after six solid innings where
he allowed just four hits and three earned runs,
but freshman Josh Faro (Gallipolis, OH) failed to
maintain the tie after taking over on the mound.
Jouseph Renovales greeted Faro with a double
down the left field line and Emille Morillo followed with a sacrifice bunt before Pfluger deposited Faro’s first offering over the fence in left for his
second home run of the season and a 6-4 Pioneers

RIO GRANDE, Ohio
— Ulisses Miranda
scored his second goal of
the game with 47.3 seconds remaining in overtime to give Grace (Ind.)
College a 2-1 win over the
University of Rio Grande,
Saturday evening, in nonconference men’s soccer
action at Evan E. Davis
Field.
The Lancers, who were
among the teams receiving votes in the latest
NAIA coaches’ Top 25
poll, improved to 11-6-2
with the win, despite
being outshot in the contest 19-6.
Rio Grande, ranked No.
13 in the same poll, fell to
9-4 with a second straight
home loss.
The loss left the RedStorm with consecutive
home setbacks for the
first time since 2007 — a
1-0 loss to Fresno Pacific
on Sept. 8 and 2-1 to
Houghton College on
Sept. 22.
Rio Grande broke a
scoreless deadlock when
senior Callum Malanaphy
(Stourbridge, England)
found the back of the
net from the top of the
18-yard box off a crossing
pass from the left wing by
freshman Fernando Alvarez (Santiago, Chile).
Grace tied the game

just over 10-1/2 minutes
later when Miranda gathered in an errant pass
by the RedStorm and
won his subsequent 1v1
matchup with Rio freshman goal keeper Daniel
Merino Correa (Madrid,
Spain) with a shot from
the left side.
That’s how things
stayed until the closing
minute of the overtime
period.
Rio Grande had a
would-be game-winning
shot by senior Samuel
Pedersen (Aldershot,
England) stonewalled by
Grace net-minder to Joe
Bowles with 59 seconds
left, setting the stage
for the Lancers’ race up
the right sideline, which
resulted in Miranda scoring the game-winner off a
feed from Daigo Adachi.
Bowles recorded six
saves in the win for
Grace.
Correa stopped a
pair of shots in the loss
for Rio Grande, which
also held an 8-4 edge in
shots on goal and a 6-1
advantage in corner kick
chances.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action
on Thursday when it
travels to Shawnee State

Fuqua said it was troubling that the suspects
in Monday’s shooting “are clearly young
people yet again in our
city committing acts of
violence.”
Police have identified
both suspects in in the
March 3 shooting and
issued arrest warrants.
On Monday, police asked
the newly identified suspect “to surrender himself
peacefully to authorities
to ensure his safety and
the safety of all parties
involved.”

Columbus saw a record
175 homicides last year,
the majority firearmrelated, and is already on
pace to beat that record
again, with 40 killings as
of March 10.

in central Ohio have also
sounded an alarm about
a sharp uptick in crimes
by juveniles, mostly car
thefts and car jackings.

A message seeking

Like many U.S. cities,
Columbus is experiencing
a huge spike in gun violence. Police announced
last week the number
of gunshots detected by

customers and employees
to a storeroom and called
police, the woman told
the station.
Another woman told
The Columbus Dispatch
she had just finished eating when she “heard a

which saw two men firing multiple shots at

on Monday, with multiple cruisers positioned
around the entrance and
