The project stirred heated controversy in the Senate since it was the only part of the bill which many said involved "pork barrel" - the addition of projects to appease and win the votes of individual lawmakers. In a separate floor amendment, the · Senate deleted a committee amendment by Sen. Teenagers die in accident AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Three teenage girls, who graduated from high school Sunday, died today following the collision of a car and truck in Northampton Township outside Akron. A fourth young woman was in serious condition at Akron City Hospital, state police said. The four friends drove out of a night club parking lot on Route Bat about I :30 a.m., officers said. Their car pulled in front of a truck on a twl}olane road and was hit broadside, police said. The driver of the truck was treated at a hospital and released. No charges were filed. Authorities identified the victims as Tammy Soos, 18, of Richfield; Debra Reigler, 18, of Bath Township; and Sandra Dougherty, 17, of Northampton. Mary Beth Velve, 18, of Bath remained hospitalized.
