Now We're a Buckeye Festival
The Big Bend Regatta, up for its fifth showing this June 20 • 22 has come of age.
Sponsored by the PomerO)' Chamber ol
Cunmerce, which has enjoyed assists from the
Micklleport Chamber alkl other local civic
gr(qJS, the 1969 Regatta is one of the Buckeye
State festivals sanctioned by the Ohio Festivals
and Events Association. This is the first regatta which has been so approved.
The Big Bem Regatta won its omcialstatus
In dte December meetirw of the association
when altogether 28 Ohio special events were
QProved as festivals. The 1969 list represents
a oet gain or two, fiw being added and three being removed (for failure to comply with &sao-

ciation rules).
The Ohlo Travel COlD1cil Newsletter for
January, 1969, published by the State of Ollio
Development Department, greeted the announcement of approved festivals with this asse5s-ment:
"Ohio has tightened Its grasp on the title
of 'Festival State' by adding five new events for
the 1969 season."
We'll buy that.
NOIIJ it only remains for the people of the
Bend area to pitch in wltll more Sl.IIPGrt than
ever before to help 1he Pomeroy c of c make
this fifth aMual Big Bend Regatta a success
in every way.

LOS ANGELES - THE MURDER TRIAL of Sirhan B. Sirhan got
lts first real jolt when a womao said she could not sentence him to

as a juror. Mrs. AlviNl Alvidrez, a middle--aged clerk In a hardware

jur~. Defense lawyer Grant Cooper asked if she had conacientious
objections to capital punishment.
.
"Yes, I do," she 'said. "I couldn't br~ng in~ death penalty
