forma. How can I get enough
calcium?
A-You can ruu a whole
egg, including the shell,
through a blender and make
a milkless egg drink. Other
foodi t h a l are rich in
calcium i a c I u de spinach,
beef tops, kale and broccoli.
Or your doctor could pre·
scribe a calcium supplement.

Q-WIIal are the signs of
calcium deficiency? How
much calcium should I take
if I have such a deficiency?
· A-A calel11111 delleleo.cy is

the former would cause
muscle spasms in your
bands and nervous irrilabil·

passed the menopause a cal·
clum deficiency may cause
osteoporosis with the collapse of one or more vertabrae.
Although the daily maln·
jenance dose of calcium in
your diet or in the form of
calcium gluconate is 800 mll·

as kidney stones or arthritis?
Will calcium help to cure
asthma?
A-When a normal persoa
gets more calcium than he
needs. the e x c e s s passes
through the digestive tract
and is not absorbed into the
blood. An excess of calcium
in the blood may, however,
be_ associated w_ith hyperthy·
r01dism, VItamin D poison·
mg, multiple myeloma and
saccoidosis. A dose of five
grams of calcium gtuconate
daily will not cause any
harmful effects in a person
who does not have one of the
diseases mentioned.
There are sevetal kinds of
kidney stone. In some per·
sons whose blood calcium
level is elevated, calcium
may be present ln the stones.
This can be prevented by
taking a daily dose of sodium
phosphate. The calcium in
the blood will neither cause
nor aggravate arthritis.
Although some asthmatics
may require calcium, it
would be given for some condition o £h e r than their
asthma.
