Chance To Help Neighbor

GALUA countians should lend every
support possible to assure the selection of the Meigs county site for the
proposed new $18,000,000 penitentiary.
It is a known fact that there are three

prime sites under consideration, and as
a next door neighbor to Meigs we
should do all in our power to help them
get this institution, which will go a long
wav to bolster the economy of not only
that county, but this entire region. Our
county has gradually been lo')ing populaone of the largest state institutions in

It is the intention of the state to do
something to help counties, such as
~leigs. that have such a terrific need
for employment opportunities. The
countY has gradually been Ising population over a period of several years, and
the establishment of the new fa cility in
that countv would be a giant step in re\l('r:.;Jng that trend. There would be
from 300 tn :l50 positions after it IS completed. and the construction of the $18

Meigs count1ans have made their

have had the advantages of a state ID·

go all out to help sell the state 011 this

to see that what will be goorl for Meigs

BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS,

took a spectacular ride across
western Utah's Salt Flats Tuesday unaware that the rear portion of his rocX.et-powered racer
was a virtual blow torch burnIng away behind him.
The age of rocketry, which
came to BonneviUe for the first
time this season, produced the
latest in a series of unusual
mishaps as Walt Arfons'
"Wingfoot Express," driven by
Tatroe, was damaged during an
abortive bid to gain the world
land speed record.
Car Melts
The Arfons car hurtled across
the salt at 438.650 miles per
hour even though most of its
rockets were malfunctioning.
But the sides and undercar·
riage of the 28-foot-long light
blue racer were melted in va·
rious places by the tremendous
beat produced by the rockets.
The damage was confined to
the sheet metal skin and wiring
inside the racer and it
appeared repatrs would take at
least a week or two.
Arfons. was undecided whe.
