Shopping Habits
WE ARE entermg a period of inten•
sive •noppin& in the weeks that lit
ahead between

now

and

Christmas.

There are oil kind• of shoppers. Some eo
about t~e task with no aet plan or goals,

-e

and we would be surprised at the amount
of time that is consumed in aimless tours
of the •!ores. Probably the fastest shop·
who appear to walk into a store and
If the

Item is not available they are off and
running to the next establishment with·
out wasting time in needless conversa·
lion. We came across the results of a
aurvey mode of the shopping habits of
the avera&e woman. and were amazed at
the discoveries that were made by tho
survey.

.,

Did you know that the average lady
shopper only spends thirteen and a hall
minutes in a store, and during her stay
spends on the. average of '\.30 on mer·
chandise before she [s on her way to an·
other establishment. Here is one that
will really floor you . She knows nine
Urnes out of ten what she wants to buy
when she enters the store, and eight
hmes out of ten she gets exactly what
she ~.:arne after. Her hBhiLs while in the
•tore show• that she stops at the notion
counter more than at any other point,
where she gets a variety of items from
bair rollers to thread .
If a shopper leaves the store without

buying, in fifty pen·t•nt of the cases it
is because she ran 't find what she wants.
The next largest cause, or thirty per<·ent
of the time is because she does not like

what she sees. The other reasons for leH·
vms is that the proper color or size is not
avaUable and that the prices are too
high. This makes a burden on the mer·
chant who is out to sell the public, and
that lor the most part means the female
side of the household. The merchant
succeeds best who knows wh at people
like. If they like it they buy it . and if it
does not appeal two \lmes out of ten
they walk out.
Many will be surprised at the

low

percentaae of persons, only ten percent
who are swayed from purchasing by
price . This is probably due to the afflu·
ence of our present society If the cost
of living goes up, as is predicted durin$

the coming years there i!l a great
