CAPE KENNEDY (UPI) - Gemini 6 astronauts Walter Scbirra and Thomas Stafford streaked into space orbit with perfect launch today and began a 100.000-mile
chase to catch up with Gemini 7 and rendezvous nose-to·
nose.
After two heartbreaklng failures on the pad Gemini
6 performed magnificently and thundered off at 8:37
a.m. EST on a cloud of smoke. Six minutes later, Scllirra
and Stafford were In orbit on a loop-the-loop pursuit of
Gemini 7 astronauta Frank Borman and James. Lovell.
Gemini 7 was about 1,200 miles away and about 186
miles high at the iime of launch. Rendezvous should
take place 6 hours and 49 minutes later - 2:26 p.m.
