LIST TO STARBOARD - The Naval Ship Lynch lists to starboard, "stuck in the
mud " as a landlubber would say, after sliding into the Ohio River off the ways at
Marietta Manufacturing Co., boatyards Tuesday afternoon. Hlghwinds and water, and
a couple of faulty cradles caused the slight trouble. A tug quickly pulled the Lynch
free. and she was berthed for finishing to ucbes before the Navy Department
bar over.

WASIUNGTON (UP!) - An
Afll'letllture Department prot..,.
Uon ol the U. S. dairy Industry,
Into 1968 shoWs these posslbiJi..
ties : Fewer dairymen, larger
herds, higher production, increased oash receipts, sliJhtly
larger total coosumptloo, and
continued but perhaps smaller
a:ovemment purchases.
The five • year projection•
.. were prepared by the Department's Economlc Research Ser·
vice (ERS ). They were based
on assumptions that current
lev~Js and methods of ;n-ice support will continue, the ecooomy
will maintain its rale of growth,
and technological development
of the dairy industry will remain
at its present rate.
ERS predicts that as the ·
number of dairy farms and cows
drop, the remaining herd. will
become larger & more specialized. More than ~all of all cows
will be in herds ol at least 30
hea~ by 1968, ERS said, The
average annual production per
cow likely will rise 18() to 200
Pounds each year and reach a
national fljUI'e of around B.iiOO
pounds within live years; ERS
said the proje~ted. increase in
output per cow would result
from improvements in breeding,
care, and feeding.
Cow numbers are likely to be
about 15 million head in 1968,
ERS said, with total milk production around 126 billioo
pounds. This comj>ares with
about ~ billion pounds !rom
16.6 million head In 1963.
ERS predicted cash receipts
from 121 billion pounds of milk
sold off farms in 1968 likely will
be around $5.1 billion at current
support prices of $3.14 per hundredweight for manufacturing
milk. The 1963 estimate
.was
118 blllloo pounds which sold lor
$4.9 billion in gross recyipts.
ERS said foreseeable pro•
pects in 1968 are for a further
decline in per ca;>ita consumption ol dairy foods but a sliJht
increase in total uae because of
a larger population. Possible
higher per ~Spita incomes are
expected to help stem the drop

WASHINGTN (UP[) - The
Federal Trade Commls!lon has
proposed a new t'llle that may
shake Madison Avenue to Its
very foundatioos, assuming that
Madison Avenue has any foundations lo ahake.
In esoenc.e. the rule says that
you cat)'l sell or
advertise
America~> cosmetics or toilet
articles .w~h foreign names uP.
less you clearly identify them
as product• of the u.S.A.
In othe• worda, to use a .hypothelical example, II you are
putting out a .·u. S. .perfume
called "Place Pignlle." you
would have to print '!made in
Brooklyn" in large type on the
front label.
The commission says It has
reason to believe that foreign
words ali cosmetics tend to d..
celve consumers by leading
them to believe some of the d<>mest!c stuff is Imported. It will
