Middleport surely must have an inside pipelio~ source to
wherever good high school baseball teams ar<L produced. This

Ohio high school has reached the state linats In Class A tour·

here of the vlclill'y of Coach Nolan Swackhamer's determmed 1
crew over a strong Solem Local lllne, 100, In the oemi..finab

has a pitching star named Jerry Galehouse, son Of 1 former
major league pitcher, Denny Galehouse Galehouse practical·

the state semi-final.
.
Win or lose Saturday, Mll!~tej!Oit, indeed , ail of Meigs
County. will be anxiou! to pay hOmage to the spirit and ability
of the Yellow Jacket baseball Ieoni. Special Cjlmmendatlon is
due this team more than merely for winrllng 14 straight games
and reaching the final game in the tournament.
This was a team from a school tha't had for tong years tasted
of high athletic glory in football and moderate s\Jctess In basketball, but in the last three years has been a victim of nearly
every opponent on its schedules.
This was a team that did not play besebali last year because
the school •va• unable to sponsor a team in the Southeastern
Ohio Athletic League.
Ttus was a team that began spring play under a popular
cloud of indifference. for whoever heard of Middleport Ciha"V--1
mg any team that could wjn games?"
This also was the learn that saw the first two weelcs of Ito
schedule rained out, with inte•·mittent interruptions aftel'
wards as well.
And this was the team which had ohe of Its key players 1~11
this writer before the season got under way, In fact befcll'e
they even had an organized drill under their coach:
"We're gonna be tough this year. You walland see."
We waited. We saw. We f:!Oncede.
Eleven boys have carried the entire load through the spring
schedule. More accurately, 10 is closer to t)le tr~th, oithough

For the teatn the lnvlndbie filth etch Jhijfuber had In Its

For their a&e. and their tlme al\d .plice, how better could they
have spent their greatest energy and ••termination than in
team success?

Middleport surely must have an inside pipelio~ source to
wherever good high school baseball teams ar<L produced. This
4s the secohd Ume in seven years our smaH Southeastern
Ohio high school has reached the state linats In Class A tour·
nameilt play. At this w)'ltlng (Frldsy) word has b<!en received
here of the vlclill'y of Coach Nolan Swackhamer's determmed 1
crew over a strong Solem Local lllne, 100, In the oemi..finab
Doylestown, which meets Middleport Saturday in the finals ,
has a pitching star named Jerry Galehouse, son Of 1 former
major league pitcher, Denny Galehouse Galehouse practical·

the state semi-final.
Eleven boys have carried the entire load through the spring
schedule. More accurately, 10 is closer to t)le tr~th, oithough
the 11 lh, Roger Llgh!loot, WOI!Id hay. liked to plif Ill~. Jle

For the teatn the lnvlndbie filth etch Jhijfuber had In Its

For their a&e. and their tlme al\d .plice, how better could they
have spent their greatest energy and ••termination than in
team success?
