We ~ ere not always so

They Raised $100,000 For $1
Well bel ore the turn of the 2oth Century
Pomeroy iaw that It needed a railroad If 1t
was to compete successfully with tis nelghbormg counhes Business men, workers, In
dustrlallsts - and there were large eoal m·
dustrtes here then - joined together to
raise $100,000
Wtth It they built the stone wall from the
upper stop light at the end of East Main to
the cot poratlon Une with Middleport Vcs
tigcs or thts wall remain today
Behind the wall a dirt fill was made and
upon It was built the railroad tracks upon
whtrh the Hocking Valley line for many
yem connected Pomeroy and Middleport
with the oulstde world Then the wall and all
th&t had been created was sold back to the
rmlrond for
It Is not wJid to estimate that $100,000
about 75 years ago was, worth U ,OOO,OOO today This county today would blow tis collecl!ve brains out tr such a proposal were forwarded seriously

11 you could have for the Metgs County
commumty a smgle wish, what would It be'
Thts Is a querikln we ask from ttme to

always cnUghtemng The answers mvanably
are mterestmg We are bold enough to as

them
One suggestion wtll be outlined today

He ha! however, been close to the ttream of

Is lmpahent that II appean during long lnlervals to dawdle
The smgle projed that would do most for
our county In the Immediate future and m
long yrars to come, In the opinion of one ts
a modem feeder hne atrporl At ftrsl
thought, this proposal Is surprising That 1t
ts Is merely more Indicative of how eomplac

ready hrs leaped into the Space Age
We ~ ere not always so

They Raised $100,000 For $1
Well bel ore the turn of the 2oth Century
Pomeroy iaw that It needed a railroad If 1t
was to compete successfully with tis nelghbormg counhes Business men, workers, In
dustrlallsts - and there were large eoal m·
dustrtes here then - joined together to
raise $100,000
Wtth It they built the stone wall from the
upper stop light at the end of East Main to
the cot poratlon Une with Middleport Vcs
tigcs or thts wall remain today
Behind the wall a dirt fill was made and
upon It was built the railroad tracks upon
whtrh the Hocking Valley line for many
yem connected Pomeroy and Middleport
with the oulstde world Then the wall and all
th&t had been created was sold back to the
rmlrond for
It Is not wJid to estimate that $100,000
about 75 years ago was, worth U ,OOO,OOO today This county today would blow tis collecl!ve brains out tr such a proposal were forwarded seriously
