Sandy (Sandra) Hysell, age 66 of Middleport, Ohio passed away from many health complications and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 11th 2022, she was transported from Riverside hospital to the beautiful Kobacker House facility so she could be surrounded by the love from her friends and family.
She was born on January 1st, 1956 in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was the baby or as some called the runt of 6 children. She would tell many stories of working in the garden with her father and cooking in the kitchen with her mother. Which lead to why she loved growing tomatoes from her own garden and the love of cooking and baking. She has reached many people through their stomachs first by her cooking and then their hearts with her love. Some even say she added love as one of her ingredients in the food she made. She also loved reading Christian fiction, camping, fishing, and sitting on her front porch enjoying creation and watching her grandchildren play. Her dream was to be a flight attendant, but wasn’t old enough. She went on to have many jobs. The places she worked were traveling to take pictures for families, Sears Catalog store, Daily Sentinel, notary public, bookkeeper, and then worked doing finical and office work for her and her husband’s own business. The job that was her highest priority in life was to be a Christian wife, mother, and grandmother.
She met Gary Hysell at the Pomeroy Levee and enjoyed dates like riding around town, going camping, eating out, and riding motorcycles together. They fell in love and got married on October 5th, 1980 and would’ve celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this year. She loved and worked along side Gary, “keeping him and their business they owned straight,” he would say. A marriage, one with God, and full of love, teasing, and laughter.
She was a mother of two daughters. She loved, cared, and taught them her love of Jesus. She also made sure to support them by bringing hot homemade food to school, homework, discipline, prayer, hauling them around to all their sports practices and games, to being there for any event they were in. She showed up every time in every situation. To being a mom to their friends that needed that in their life. She prayed for Godly men for her daughters. Her prayer was answered, but even more so because they loved her like they were her own sons.
She has three beautiful grandchildren, Joshua, Chloe, and Uriah. She has spoiled them with love, prayer, laughter, stories, songs, food, and gifts. They are deeply saddened and will miss their mamaw. Even asking their parents if they will starve now on the holidays because mamaw won’t be there to cook.
She had a heart for God. She has been a Christian for most of her life. Her main goal was to pray for all her family members to find salvation and God’s will in their lives. She learned this from her very faithful mother. She attended and was a member of the Rutland Church of the Nazarene. Her many roles over the years were Children’s Church Director and leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible study teacher, Adult Sunday School teacher, VBS station leader, and served on the church board. One of her greatest gifts was hospitality. She made everyone feel welcome and at home. Some felt like they had a second mother. Her love for God and people was undeniable.
She was proceeded in death by her father, Dana Winebrenner, mother, Bernice Winebrenner, brother, Mick Winebrenner, her father and mother-in-law, Harold and Twila Hysell.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Hysell. Her daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Josh Wilson, Brittany and Dakota Smith. Her grandchildren, Joshua Wilson, Chloe Wilson, and Uriah Smith. Her brother and sisters and their spouses, Bob (Julie) Winebrenner, (Cindy Winebrenner), Patty Winebrenner, Suzanne (Larry)Farrer, and Ruth (Sam) Shain. Adopted like second mom family, Whitney and Matt Shain, and Pastor Robbie, Dawn, and Naia Keene. And so many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She fought hard through her illness and found her healing in Heaven. She lived a full life of love, laughter, prayer, and faith. Please join us in celebrating her life at the Rutland Church of the Nazarene on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 1:00pm with Pastor Robbie Keene officiating.
