He was born August 22, 1940, in Buckeye Lake, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Hazel Barnhart Phillips. He was an Army Veteran. Gene is survived by children Mechelle (Jeromy) Smith, Becky (Bill) Hudnall, and step-son Mark (Laura) Hafer; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings Arlene Moore, Linda George, Vickie Robinson, and Steve Hagenbuck. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister Pat Mason, brother Ed Phillips, and nephew Jamie Phillips.
