<text>Barbara Stout Shuler, 96, of Middleport, Ohio passed away on June 30, 2023 at the Overbrook Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 24, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of the late Olin Byrd ("Dick") Stout and Eva Dutton Stout.

She lived with her parents in Middleport until the sudden death of her father from appendicitis when she was 14. She and her mother moved to Athens, Ohio, so Eva could complete her college degree and find employment. Barbara graduated from Athens High School and Ohio University with a degree in sociology. In the mid-1950s, they returned to Middleport, where Barbara became a child welfare caseworker for Meigs County.

Barbara was a member of the Middleport Presbyterian Church and the auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9926 in Mason, WV. She was enrolled in the Body Donor Program of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. By donating her body, Barbara hoped she would contribute to the training of future physicians and other health care professionals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Shuler, who served in the Pacific during World War II. She is survived by her cousin Ellen Dutton (James) Kiehl and family, Claire Kiehl (Sean F.) Nicolette and Sean Dutton Nicolette.

The family thanks caregivers at Overbrook and the Amedisys Marietta Hospice program for Barbara's excellent care. Thanks also to the many friends surrounding Barbara while she remained active and during her residence in long-term care.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson McDaniel of Middleport. A memorial will be planned at the convenience of the family.</text>
