Shirley Ann (Miller) Coleman, 88, of Rutland, Ohio passed away July 2, 2023 at Holzer Emergency Department in Pomeroy, Ohio. She was born on October 11, 1934 in Middleport, Ohio to the late Althea (Wehrung) and Gail Miller. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Pomeroy, Ohio. Shirley was a faithful Christian and loved teaching the Bible and serving in the local church throughout the years. Now, her faith has become her sight as she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She graduated in 1952 from Middleport High School and was a proud Yellowjacket. She was captain of the girls' basketball team and runner-up in the beauty contest. Shirley loved her family and life on the farm. For 20 years, she delivered The Daily Sentinel. She loved the early Sunday deliveries so she could park on top of a hill and watch the sun come up. She also placed foreign exchange students in homes, and was a grandmother at Wahama High School, and a few other schools in West Virginia. Before her health declined, she was also a caregiver.
Throughout the years, Shirley enjoyed sewing, crocheting doilies, reading, basketball, keeping a scrapbook of her older brother Mick who played professional baseball, and watching deer run through her yard. She also enjoyed her two beloved little dogs: Paco (chihuahua) and Cody (dachshund), as well as two cats: Baby and Kitty. She especially loved watching her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play baseball.
Shirley was preceeded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents Althea and Gail Miller, her brother Mick Miller, her youngest sister Sandy Faulk, and her niece Debbie (Faulk) Blu. She is survived by her son Jerry Coleman, her daughter, Jane Coleman (both of Rutland), her sister Marilyn Freyhof of Hope, MI, sister-in-law Elaine Miller of Middleport. Three grandchildren, Jeremy Coleman, Tim (Christina) Coleman, Justin Coleman, six great-grandchildren, Lexi, Brittany, Skyla, Aiden, Grace, Colin and one great, great-grandchild, Zayn, along with nieces and nephews. Also, Susan Mullins who was like a second daughter, and her very special cousin and partner-in-crime, June Kloes of Logan, Ohio.
The family would like to thank her cousin June, Tammy Weber, Holly Boso, and Ashley Miller for their faithful phone calls. A special thanks to Bobbi and Sarah, the Meals-on-Wheels gals who brightened her day. It was Shirley's final wish to have graveside rights only and no viewing.
Graveside service will be at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire, Ohio Friday, July 7th at 1:00pm.
