            <text>Roger Stanley Alkire, 74 of Syracuse, passed away at Abbyshire Place on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was born in Pomeroy on January 16, 1949 to the late Felix Ray and Mildred Irene (Kapteina) Alkire. Roger served his country in the United States Air Force from September 1967- October 1975.&#13;
&#13;
He was a member of the Bradbury Church of Christ and the VFW Post 9926 where he briefly served as post chaplain.&#13;
&#13;
He is survived by his children Chris and Amanda Alkire, and Debbie Sparkman; grandchildren Joshua Sparkman, Joey Bender, Tyler Dyal, Jacob Bender, Jenny Alkire and Gabriel Alkire; several great-grandchildren; sisters Marilyn Wilt and Shirley Stanley; brothers-in-law Chester King, and Dano and Joan King&#13;
&#13;
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife Charldine (King) Alkire; son-in-law Dr. Gerald Sparkman; brothers-in-law Ron Wilt, Dan Stanley, and Richard Shuler; and sister-in-law Anna Shuler. &#13;
&#13;
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 14, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00am  with Pastor Justin Roush officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Meigs Memory Gardens where military honors will be presented by the VFW Post 9926.</text>
