            <text>Edith L. Shoemaker, 92, Gallipolis, passed away at 11:07 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2023 in the Holzer Senior Care Center. Born March 18, 1931 in Harrison Township of Gallia County she was the daughter of the late Delmer E. and Rosetta Stover Thornton. Edith retired after thirty years of service as a telephone operator with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. On March 8, 1953 in Northup, Ohio she married Wayne I. Shoemaker and he preceded her in death on July 31, 2001. Edith is survived by her son, Carroll W. (Anita) Shoemaker, of Northup, her granddaughter, Emily B. (James Patrick "Pat") Riley, of Barboursville, West Virginia, her two great-grandchildren, Allison Riley and Ian Riley, her sister, Wanda (John) Fierce, of Proctorville, Ohio, her niece, Debbie (Phil) Kincaid, of Lesage, West Virginia, her nephew, Eric (Sarah) Thornton, of Vinton, Ohio, two great nieces, Michelle Brown and Ashley Brown and two great nephews, Coalton Thornton and Kaden Thornton. In addition to her parents and husband Edith was preceded in death by her two brothers, Clifford R. "Cliff" Thornton and Delmer Thornton Jr. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023 in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Hood. Interment will be in the Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service. The Shoemaker family would like to thank the staff at the Holzer Senior Care Center for their excellent care of Edith during her stay there.</text>
