On April 8, 2023, I experienced one of the most devasting moments ever. I had to say “goodbye until we meet again” to my Mom. Instead of placing emphasis on mourning her passing, I’m celebrating her life!

I am so grateful to have had a mother who embraced each day with optimism. She taught me so many valuable lessons and many times without ever saying a word. She was a devout Christian and led by example in all that she did. She provided guidance with compassion in her own way, wisdom, and generosity, because those things were what encapsulated who she was. I may not have acknowledged or had awareness in the moment, and maybe not even over the past few months, but reflection can help provide a more accurate perspective.

My Mom was an incredible woman. I feel extremely lucky to have been her daughter. I’m grateful beyond words for every word of encouragement and advice. Mom expressed her love by her actions, calmness, and gentle ways. She wasn’t one to get emotional, so having a deeper understanding of how she expressed her love was very valuable. Over the years, and particularly in the past few years, I could have easily misinterpreted her intentions. Knowing Mom’s heart brings comfort.

Mom even had a fun side to her. She liked to joke around and was quick witted to come up with a good joke or two. She got my friend Loretta really good one day and Loretta still finds herself laughing about it today. Mom enjoyed passing time with her friends at Wendy’s and doing word searches, and playing dominoes with her friends, Betty and Wayne. Mom loved playing the piano and we will celebrate playing her favorite hymns.

Oh how I will miss you Mom! I love you, Mom. I’ll try my best to carry your love into the world.
