Text

April Shasteen Smith, beloved wife, mother, sister, and Mimi, passed away on August 11, 2024, surrounded by her family and enveloped in love.

Born in Winchester, Tennessee on April 13, 1939 to Walter R. and Ethel G. Shasteen, April's early years were marked by several relocations before the Shasteen family settled in Pomeroy, OH. April graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1957 and went on to attend business college in Columbus, OH. She enjoyed a fulfilling career as an Administrative Assistant (Secretary), first at Pomeroy Elementary and later at the Meigs County Treasurer's Office.

April was a compassionate caretaker, dedicated to her family and community. She was deeply involved in her granddaughters' lives, actively participating in their many activities. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, was a member of the Pomeroy High School Alumni Committee, and was a founding member of the Shoebox Ministries and Pillow Case Dress projects at Trinity Church. April was an avid card player, a seamstress, a bowler (at one time), and enjoyed a mean game of Bridge. In the 90s and early 2000s, she could be found behind a video camera, proudly capturing every moment of #T7 racing around the dirt track.

April is survived by her husband of 65 years, Thomas E. Smith; their daughter, Paige (Corbet) Cleek; their son Todd (Nancy) Smith; granddaughters Amy (Patrick) Brown, Molly (Nermin) Kantardzic, Maggie Smith, Hannah Cleek, Olivia Cleek; and great-granddaughter Addison Brown. April also leaves behind her two brothers, Ray (Garnette) Shasteen and John (Joan) Shasteen.

April was blessed with many dear friends and gathered so many wonderful memories over the years. We encourage you to share your stories with us, as they will help comfort us during this time of loss.

At April's request, there are no immediate plans for a funeral. We will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date and will share the details soon.
