            <text>Elmer C. Newell, 74 of Chester, OH passed away on October 20, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family after a quiet and courageous battle with cancer.&#13;
&#13;
He was born on June 27, 1950 in Mason, WV to the late Hobart and Inzy (Curtis) Newell. &#13;
&#13;
Elmer served our country in the United States Navy as a firefighter from 1970-1972.   He was also, a member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, where he has served since 1967.  He was the current President of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department where he has served as Captain.   Earlier this year Elmer received an Honorary Deanship from Hocking Valley Fire School.  Elmer was in the Shade River Masonic Lodge where he has been a member since 1992 and was a past Master and York Rite.  In 2013 Elmer retired from ODOT.  He was an Executive officer for OCSEA.    Elmer was a member of the Mason VFW #9926 and the New Haven American Legion.    He also attended the Chester United Methodist Church.  He was a Chester Township Trustee for 25 years.&#13;

Elmer loved Chester.  He often, talked about Chester being the "Capitol of the World."   He was committed to Chester.  Most importantly Elmer loved his family.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow.   &#13;

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Newell.&#13;
&#13;
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Darlene Newell; sons, Scott (Lorayne) Justis, Huston, TX, Rex (Erica) Justis of Patriot, OH; daughter, Jeanie (Floyd) Ridenour, Chester, OH; grandchildren, Curtis Justis, Cleveland, OH, Leah Justis, Huston, TX, Casey (Dianne) Ridenour, Racine, OH, Kaley Justis, Houston, TX, Katherine Ridenour, Athens, OH and Conner Ridenour, Chester, OH; great granddaughter, Madalynn Ridenour: sister, Shelia (Tom) Theiss, Racine,OH and Several nieces, nephews, cousin and many friends.  &#13;
&#13;
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 11:00am at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy with Pastor Scott Blevins officiating.   Burial will follow in the Chester Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 5-8:00pm.   Fireman and masonic service will be held the evening of visitation.  &#13;

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.    </text>
