Republicans are understandably and laudably concerned · about expanding
their electoral base to

it's insulting to assume that.
Hispanics will vote for you,
as some leading Republicans
seem to, only if you tum a
blind-eye toward those who
have entered the country
illegally via · "economy

"Spanglish"). As one GOP

Indeed, Steve Camarata,
director of re,search for the

show . that for actual
Hispanic voters, immigra~

priority. So it's not clear this
is a way to win Hispanic
voters." He adds that "for
actual Hispanic voters who

tend to be more law-andorder types, so again it's not
clear that this is a winner
politically." "Law-and;<>rder

When you go to the polls on May 2, you
will notice that there will be a 'Cemetery Levy
on the ballot. This levy will support the five cemeteries
that are located throughout Salisbury Township. The
cemeteries include Rocksprings, Bradford. Howell Hill.
Austin and Bunker Hill. Every township in Meigs Cllunty
has a cemetery levy, except for Salisbury, and one other
township. Without the support of a levy, it makes 'it
extremely difficult to maintain the proper care that each
cemetery deserves. The money generated through the levy
will go toward the.costs of mowing artd weedeating. tree
and bush trimming, and general upkeep and maintenance.
The levy would cost the taxpayers in Salisbury Township
.05 on every $100.00. We need your help in keeping our
township;s cemeteries looking res~table and presentable

RACINE - Breaking a 2-2 tie in
the second inning, the Southern

streak and jumped back on the winning track in a big way with ·an 11-6
inter-divisional victory over the
Meigs Marauders Thesday night at
Star Mill Park. Southern is now 10-3
overall.
The ~arne started out in a close,
compeutive fashion . Good strategy,
aggressive base running, and sunny
skies highlighted the ideal props for a
.Southern comeback and eveptual victory.
Meigs went up 2-0 .in the first
inning when Bryan DeLong smgled,
Greg Musser walked, and Clayton
Blackston hit a two-run double.
Southern came back to tie the score
in the bottom of the first when Josh
. Pape drew a one-out walk, Butch
Marnhout reached on an error, Pape
came borne on a passed ball, and
Brad Crouch had an RBI ground out

,·
to short, 2·2.
The Marauders went up 3-2 in the
second . when Aaron Story walked,
stole sec.ond, and was hung out to dry
on a pick-off attempt by Southern
starter Ryan Chapman. Story took off
for third and the throw from second
to third bounced off his helmet and
out of play, allowing Story to push
across the go-ahead run, 3-2 .Meigs.
The Marauder lead was short-lived.
With one out, Darin Teaford led off a
Tornado rally with single, Jake
Hunter · walked and Wes Riffle
pounded a long-RBI single. Pape
reached · via a fielder's choice,
Mamhout singled home two runs,
and Brad Crouch had an RBI double .
That was followed by an RBI single
by Chapman in a five-run second \hat
·
gave SHS a 7-3 lead. ·
Southern never looked back.
Austin Dunfee came in to pitch for
Bryan Wallerw/pholci
Meigs in the third . Dunfee struck out
the first batter he faced, then walked Southern's Josh Pape (5) reaches second base safely after a steal in the siXth

inning of Tuesday's contest aginst Meigs at Star Mill Park in Racine. Also pictured

season with II rookies and a

the smallest in the big

The Marlins came into the

Milton has contributed
more than his share.· The lefthandrr gave up 40 1 homers
last season. the most in the
majors, and hoped that an offseason conditioning program
to strengthen his legs would
help him keep the ball down .
He gave up two homers
while winning his ftrst two
starts. Then . he went back to
his old ways Tuesday.
Ramirez , a 22-year-old
shortstop obtained from
Boston last · November, hit
Milton's third pitch of the
game for his first career
homer,· a drive that barely

cleared the wall in center. He
added a two-run shot in the
second, 'and Uggla followed
with his second homer.
Miltun kept his head down
as he walked off the field following the inning, enduring
loud boos and catcalls from
the crowd of 19,724. Jason
LaRue was on deck to pinchhit and Milton had grabbed
his jacket and headed for the
clubhouse when David Ross
homered in the bottom of the
second, giving Milton a second chance.
. He didn 't make much of it.
Milton 'allowed eight hits,
three walks and nine ·runs in 4
1-3 innings, leaving with the
bases loaded in the fifth.
Miguel Olivo doubled off
reliever Matt Belisle to start a
· four-run rally.
