DAYTON (AP) -The deaths of a couple last month have
been ruled murder and suicide, although both victims apparently were wiUing participants.

Montgomery County Coroner James Davis said Thursday
that Wilbur Gassett, 63, and his wife,WiUa Mae, 60, died March
11 of smoke and soot'inhalation from fires in their home.
Investigators determined that as Wilbur lay on the bedroom ·
floor, WiUa Mae set several fires and then lay down ·next to her
husband, Davis said.
Willa Mae's death was the suicide. Davis called her husband's
death a "pure definition" of homicide, meaning death caused by
another, but said investigators believe he lay down wiUingly to
die.

Thunday night in an important boys'
Hocking Diviliion baseball .:ontest at
Glouster Municipal Park.
Trimble is now 6-4 overall, while
Southern is 5-4 and 3-4 in the league.
Coach Scott Wickline's charges took
the lead in the third inning, but had to
battle back twice to post the exciting
win, Matt Ash went five and one third

innings to get the win, while Justin
Allen finished out th e game in posting
the save. Ash fanned six and Allen
fanned two, while together they
walked three.
Jesse Brunton went the distance for
Trimble, fanning one and walking two
while sufferin g the loss .
Trimble went ahead in the first
when Shust walked and scored on a
Brunton single. Southern after going
down in the fir.;t two innings, came
back to score two in the third. Justin
Allen doubled, Wes Burrows had an

R.BI single, and Matt Ash had an RBI
double. to push the score to 2-1.
Trimble tied the score in the fourth
when Noah Barrett slammed a solo
leadoff home run for a 2-2 score: The
Tomcats went up 3-2 when Jenkins
singled, advanced on an·error, and Stier
doubled him home.
The Tornadoes stormed back in the
sixth as Brice Hill faked a bunt and
slammed a single to right. · Matt Ash
walked, Brandon Pierce hit a sacrifice
fly, and Curt Crouch singled, the score
4~3.

AJoe Cornell double and Brice Hill
single set the stage for a Matt Ash double to ·add some insurance runs in the
seventh inning. Justin Allen came on in
relief to retire the side in the se-venth
inning.
. Southern hitters were Curt Cro uch

Hill two singles, Allen a double, Cornell a double, and Burrows a single.
Trimble hitter.; were Stier two doubles;

M cARTHUR _!. Track returned to Southern High
School for the first time in several years in the form of
Southern's first competitive meet at Vinton County High
School Tuesday night. The Southern teams, both boys and
girls, are coached by former Eastern track star Beth Bay.
Bay indicated that Southern had a considerable amount of
success in iu debut, with several players claiming first place
wins. Southern junior Amy Lee was the big winner for the
Torrudoes, winning two events.
Pirft place winners included Jake Nease, first in the shot;
Kyle Mees, first in the 1,600-meter run;John Bentz, first in
the 200-meter dash; Amy Lee, first in the 800- and 1(,00meter run1; and Carolyn Bentz, 6nt in the 3,200-metcr run.
AdditionaUy, Jake Nease finished third in the di~eus. and
Kyle Meet, 6nished fourth in the 1600-meter. Carolyn
Bentz, winner of the 3,200-metcr, claimed second place in
1he 1600-meter run. AIJO scoring for the boys were Chris
Tucker, Wes SeUen, and Matt Thomas. Scoring for the girls
