POMEROY - When
Meigs County fai'rgoers
entered the old log cabin
on the falrgro.unds last
week, it was like stepping
back In time.
The two-room cabin
with a stone fireplace and
a narrow stairway leading
to an attic was the home·
stead of the Edward Foster
family. It was built in 1829
in what is now a housing
area in the Rock Springs
community.
· In 1987, it was dismantled and moved to the fairgrounds, a pro~ct of the
Meigs County Fair Board
and the Meigs County
Pioneer and Historical
Society. Its furnishings are
from the late 1880s.
Last week, historical
exhibits were displayed
for the enjoyment of fair
visitors and demonstrations of pioneer crafts
were held for the children.

GALLIPOLIS - St. Louis Cutholic
Church will celebrute its sesquicentennial
with a Pontifical Muss. followed by tlie
eighth annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday,
Aug. 25.

The church, at Fourth Avenue and State
Street,110d founded in 1852. is I50 years old

Bishop-elect R. D11niel Conlon. newly
uppointed to the Steubenville Diocese,
· Bishop Gilbert J. Sheldon and celebmting ·
clergy will be present to celebrate the
Pontiticul MtL~s ut 4 p.m. Aug. 25.
Conlon und Sheldtln will be available
during the evening dinner hours to tulk to
guests in unendance. Music for Ihe jubilee
anniversury Mass will be provided by
Encore Brass. Durton.
The spughelli dmner follows the Muss at
S p.m .. with serving until 8 p.m. Euch meal
includes spaghetti with meut suul·e. French
brcud, sulud, beverage und un international
dessert. Adult prices are $6 and $3 for chil·
tlren umler 12. The·meul is free for children
under 2.
The public is welcome to uttend the Mass ·
und is encouraged to join the purish for the
spugheiti dinner. John Edelmann 'llnd his
Encore Brass quartet will entertain on the
patio during the dinner hours. No reservations are needed.
Entrance for the dinner is on the Fourth
Avenue side of the church. ~euls may be
eaten in the church social hull or taken to
the tent/patio area behind the rectory, where
ui:lditional chairs and tables will be provid·
ed for open-air sealing. Carryout meals will
be available.

POMEROY - School for students in the
Meigs Local School District will begin on
Tuesday Aug. 27, according to
Superintendent William Buckley.
However. all teachers and non·certified
employees are to ·report at 8:30 a.m.
Monday, Aug . 26, to Meigs High School.
Buckler said that students who are new to
the distnct and have not registered . for
' classes should report to the building in their
attendance area as soon as possible to pre·
register.
He also noted that there have been only
minor changes in bus route~. and the buses
are scheduled to run at near the same times
as last year. Those with questions about bus
pickup times are to contact the transporta·
tion supervisor at 740-742·2990.
.
Students who were on free or reduced·
price lunches last year will remain on the
list until a date is set for new forms to be
returned, the superintendent said. He also
advised that student lunch prices have been
increased by S cents this year.
Other information, such as emergency
medical forms, student accident insurance
forms, student ·hdndbooks and free lunch
applications will · be sent home with stu. dents. Buckley encouraged parents to read
'the material and return any information
needed .to the school in a timely manner.
With other questions, parents are to contact the principal of the school where the
child will attend.
