If voters approve the sales tax plan. the more than $1.1 billion raised annually would be split equally between education and property taX cuts. REED Sentinel News Staff A group urging another auempt at passing a levy for the operation of the Meigs County Home met with the Meigs County Commissioners at their regular weekly meeiing on Tuesday. The group. representing a cpmmiuee appointed by the commissioners last year for investigation into the home's Qperation. urged the commissioners to· place another levy on the May ballot. A half-mill proposed levy was defeated in November. prompting the commissioners to pass a. resolution closing the home to temporary residents and limiting the use of the buildigg for temporary emergency housing for indigent citizens. The resolution aiso called for the placement of the home's I 0 permanent residents in.alternative housing as soon as possible. and established two commiuees to consider the establishment of criteria for admission intq the home and to determine eligibility. New Racine boat ramp remains _elusive goal By JIM FREEMAN Sentinel News Staff "Not forgouen," is how one Ohio Division of Wildlife official described plans to construct a new Ohio River boat launching ramp at Racine. However. the proposed facility is apparently go closer to becoming a reality than it was two years ago when first reported in The Daily Sentinel. · Although Racine already has a boat launch. the existing ramp is plagued ~y a limited approach to the river and deterior.llion of the ramp itself, which occasionally leads to stuck boat trailers. Some. including the division of wildlife, envisioned a modem launch facility located near and complementing Star Mill Park and within the village's corporation limit where patrolmen and community residents could help keep the 'Trigger man' next new launch from being targeted by vandals. The state disagreed with the price sought by the owner of the desired site. Dave Bright. a !Ish management supervisor for the Ohio 'Division of Wildlife. said Tuesday morning . State real estate ofticials took into consideration the prices paid for similar riverside lots in making their offer. he said. As a result. the department is now looking at other alternative sites. closer to the RaL"ine Locks and Dam. representing a departure from earlier hopes the new facility would be built within vi llage limits. he said.
