POMEROY — Following a traffic backup in the
construction area along
State Route 7 in the area
of State Route 143 and
Union Avenue on Thursday morning, contractors

On Thursday morning

Asked about the
delays, ODOT District

until 8 tomorrow morning (after most school

p.m. (afternoon school
traffic time).
Work in the area, which
includes installing turn
lanes and moving the
Route 7-143 intersection,
is expected to be completed in October.

MEIGS LOCAL AT 50 DAY PROCLAMATION
In addition to recognizing the football team, the commissioners issued a proclamation for
“Meigs Local at 50 Day.” The proclamation read in part,

Whereas, the Meigs Local School District is
observing and celebrating 50 years of service to
students in the district, it is altogether fitting
and proper that we pause to remember and
honor those who have come before and their
individual and collective achievements;
And whereas the administration, teachers,
coaches, staff, parents and friends have been
dedicated to providing an atmosphere and

worked in Meigs Local;
We, the Meigs County Board of County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim that Friday,
the 25th day of August 2017 be observed and
celebrated as “Meigs Local at 50 Day,” with
the latest renewal of a great friendly rivalry
in the first football game of the 2017 season, as
the Meigs Marauders host the Gallia Academy
Blue Devils; that old friends from both schools
gather and are re-united; that those who attend
and those who play on the field may experience
and enjoy the fellowship and shared memories
of fifty years.

The team went 9-1 in the
inaugural season, with the
lone loss coming 8-0 to Ironton. A week 9, 28-0 victory

Therefore be it resolved that
the Meigs County Commissioners do hereby proclaim
August 25th as a day to recognize not only the 1967 Meigs

ROCKSPRINGS — Music lovers
could find solace within the musical acts of the Meigs County Fair
2017.
Artists showcased different
genres to suit the patrons’ tastes.
Tuesday evening took on a country flare with Simba Jordan taking
to the stage.
On Wednesday evening Judgement Gun took the stage, taking
the fair goers through a range of
rock music spanning from the 70s,
80s, and 90s. They covered music
by artists such as Kiss, ACDC,
Aerosmith, Lit, Jimmy Eat World,
and Lenny Kravitz.
Thursday night went another
route with the musical entertainment; the nights theme being country. Solo artist Dillon Jarrell was
the opener for Matt Metheney’s
band. Jarrell performed a few country covers and two original songs,
“City Girl” and “The Line.” He
was a perfect intro for Metheney’s
band.
They kicked off their show with
an upbeat tune by Blake Shelton,
“Boys Round Here.” Many popular
country songs were covered during
the performance, a few by artists
Jason Aldean and Jamey Johnson.

The band’s enthusiasm did not
waiver even during a rainstorm.
Metheney invited guests on stage
to sing and dance with him and his
band to be dry and out of the rain.
They then proceeded to sing a
few songs in ode to the rain. No
rain could dampen their performance.
The weather cleared up for
Friday night and Amix took the
stage. The name explains their
music; they perform a mix of various popular songs throughout the
decades. They began their show
by playing Eagles cover, “Get Over
It.” They took the audience from

BIG BEND YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE

EST. 1986
Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader...they set out to make a difference...
BBYFL is an organization designed to promote healthy lives using youth football and cheerleading for 3rd thru 6th graders. We represent all
school districts. All of our games are played at Veterans Memorial Stadium in MIddleport Ohio, built in 1936.
Our Mission is to create a place that compels children to accomplish goals and work for success. To determine the aspects of their lives through
dedication and hard work. We pride ourselves in treating all children equal. For that moment in time when that child puts on that uniform and
takes that field he is something that dreams are made of. . .
OUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS FOR THOSE CHILDREN TO DISCOVER THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS AND WITHIN REACH. . .
Sarah Wright who is the President of the League says that the real credit goes to the countless hours of volunteers who selflessly give of
themselves for the league. Tony Gilkey is amazing and the league would not run with out him. He is everything from lawn care, field striper
(which takes about 6 hours), maintenance, and the overall guy who does everything. She says they are a team and he does all the heavy
lifting. Coaches and their families come together to make each season a success and that is what it really is about. We owe all the success to the
volunteers. Giving back to kids helps preserve our future. Follow us on Facebook or visit our website www.bigbendyouthfootball.com

Meigs still perfect in TVC Ohio
By Bryan Walters

Bryan Walters|OVP Sports

Meigs sophomore Brayden Ervin hits a chip shot on the fifth hole during the
third TVC Ohio golf match of the season on Wednesday night at Meigs County
Golf Course in Pomeroy, Ohio.

POMEROY, Ohio — A perfect 10.
The Meigs golf team picked
up its 10th straight Tri-Valley
Conference Ohio Division victory on Wednesday night following a 13-stroke victory over
the field during the season’s
third league match at Meigs
County Golf Course.
The host Marauders
improved to 18-0 in TVC Ohio
play this fall after posting a
winning tally of 171, which
ended up being well ahead of
runner-up Athens and its final
tally of 184.
Vinton County was third

overall with a 190, with Alexander (197), Wellston (216)
and River Valley (218) rounding out the four through six
spots.
Nelsonville-York did not
have enough participants to
record a team score, which led
to a seventh place finish in the
standings.
MHS senior Levi Chapman continued his individual
dominance of the league after
winning medalist honors for
a third consecutive time after
posting a 1-over par round of
35 over nine holes. Whit Byrd
of Alexander was the overall
runner-up with a 38.
The Marauders — who won
all seven TVC Ohio matches

last fall — opened up a fourwin lead in the overall standings following their latest
triumph.
The Bulldogs are now in sole
possession of second place with
a 14-4 mark in TVC Ohio play
this fall, while the Vikings (135), Spartans (9-9) and Golden
Rockets (6-12) currently round
out the top five seasonal spots.
The Raiders are all alone in
sixth place with a 3-15 league
mark, while the Buckeyes are
still winless at 0-18 overall.

Chapman for MHS with a

Will Bosa’s pass
rush ‘go crazy’ in
OSU’s new scheme?
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Nick Bosa lives in
the shadow of his superstar older brother Joey,
one of the best defensive ends ever to play at Ohio
State. That’s fine with the younger Bosa, who
wears his brother’s famous number 97 and looks
so much like him on the field that sometimes it’s
hard tell Joey ever left.
Lofty expectations naturally followed Nick from
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Columbus. He started
slow because of a torn ACL suffered in high
school. But he contributed last season, recording
five sacks and seven tackles-for-loss. Not bad for a
true freshman.
Now working in a new scheme freeing up defensive ends to go after more sacks, Bosa is more
comfortable on the field, his first step is quicker
and his pass rush is, in his words, “going crazy.”
Coach Urban Meyer puts it similarly.
“He’s ridiculous right now,” Meyer said this
week. “That name is very good right now. Need
some more Bosas.”
Bosa’s biggest challenge will be to distinguish
himself on a line loaded with NFL talent and on
a defense that should be one of the best in the
nation.
He’s not even a starter. Those guys are Tyquan
Lewis, the reigning Big Ten defensive player of the
year, and Sam Hubbard, who had 46 tackles last
year, 8.5 of them for a loss. Both NFL prospects.
Bosa also is competing for time with senior
Jalyn Holmes and promising youngsters Jonathan
Cooper and Chase Young. Defensive line coach
Larry Thompson likes to use a rotation to keep
them fresh, so it’s going to be harder for any one
of them to pile up the monster stats owned by
Joey Bosa, now a star with the Los Angeles Chargers. (148 tackles and 26 sacks in three seasons at
Ohio State).
