Rex Wendell Johnson, 76, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Born on December 8, 1946 in Gallia County, Ohio, Rex was the son of the late Hollis P. “Pearly” and Gladys E. Campbell Johnson. Rex was a graduate of Hannan Trace High School. He was a US Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War where he earned the Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. Rex retired from G & M Fuel Company and was later a driver for Hopewell. He was a member of Patriot Masonic Lodge #496.

Rex is survived by his companion, Karen McBride of Gallipolis; son, Shawn (Robin) Johnson of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Joshua, Garrett, Haven, and Mackenzie; brother, Bill (Loretta) Johnson of Gallipolis; sister, Wanda (Barry) Roberts of Springfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Peggy Johnson of Crown City, Ohio; aunt, Marianne Campbell of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by a sister, Hollice June Holcomb and a brother, Max Johnson.
A Masonic Service for Rex will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Willis Funeral Home with Bob Fellure officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery with the Gallia County Funeral Detail providing military rites. Friends may call prior to the service Friday from 11:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
