Lloyd Emmons Danner, 79, of Gallipolis, Ohio entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, September 30, 2023, surrounded by all his girls and family at Holzer Medical Center. Lloyd was born May 15, 1944 in Gallipolis, Ohio and was the son of James Emmons and Esther Fiske Danner. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He graduated from Gallia Academy in the Class of 1962 and earned a Bachelor of Science from Ohio University. Lloyd was a beloved Industrial Arts teacher at the former Kyger Creek High School and was a noted house painter. He served as a City Commissioner and currently held the position of Gallipolis Township Trustee.

If you ran into Lloyd, you would hear an interesting story, funny joke, or a witty one liner, all filled with insights and wisdom. He loved people and making connections, especially running into former students. Lloyd was a jack of all trades and worked hard in the many ways he provided for his family. He was a teacher (30 years), a painter (50 years), a Township Trustee (32 years), monument company owner (20 years), and City Commissioner (6 years). In his younger years, Lloyd drag raced cars and was also a long time member of the Gibbs Racing Car Club. Lloyd was an internationally known chicken flying contest winner, along with his brother Tom; they took home the prize at the Bob Evans Farm Festival many times. He spent countless hours playing bridge with people locally and all over the world. He competed in two national matches; and one of his greatest accomplishments was his bridge ranking of Silver Life Master Bridge player. The annual 4th of July turtle races were a highlight for Lloyd and his grandchildren. In preparation for the races, Lloyd and his dog Lily, who was prettier than any other dog, would hunt for turtles and complete turtle training. His final masterpiece was his cabin at the farm with the best views in town. Lloyd loved and was passionate about his hometown and was happiest at home.

Lloyd was married to and survived by the love of his life, Teresa (Terry) Gabrielli Danner. He was the proud father of his #1 daughter Rachel (Scott) Smith of Boise Idaho, #2 Rebecca (Scott) Crosley, Gates Mills, Ohio, #3 Sarah (Joey) Hebdo of Clintonville, Ohio, and #4 Ruth (Ryan) Floyd, Gahanna, Ohio. They gifted him with 13 grandchildren: Spencer and Sawyer Smith, Carson, Declan (Bridget), Ripley, and Colton Crosley, Jetta and Piper Hebdo, and Carter, Ella, Jack, Samuel, and Clara Floyd. Also surviving are his brothers, Robert (Kathy) Danner of Houghton, New York and Thomas (Beverly) Danner of Gallipolis, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Tina Lestrange of Melbourne, Florida and Patsy (Paul) Coulson of Powell, Ohio; uncle, John (Donna) Fiske; and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Ellen and Lloyd’s twin brother Harold Claire Danner; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James (Bill) and Irma Gabrielli; sister-in-law, Roselyn Danner; brother-in-law, Ronald Lestrange; and his dearest dog, Lily.

Visitation will take place at Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 11:00 am at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Young officiating. A Graveside Service will immediately follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Holzer Hospice staff and services for all the tender loving care they extended to Lloyd and the family in recent months. In his final weeks, he especially enjoyed weekly music therapy sessions and sharing many jokes and stories with staff and family.
