“Mickey” Earl Morgan, 85, of Rio Grande, Ohio passed away Wednesday August 16, 203 at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born May 15, 1938 at home in Cora, Ohio to the late John R. and Anna Mae Morgan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother Dan Morgan.

Mickey was a 1956 graduate from Rio Grande High School. He was a United States Army Veteran, he was stationed at Fort Eustis in Virginia. Upon returning home he worked for Pennyfare Supermarkets and Point Distributing Company for 30 years as a truck driver. He was also a lifelong farmer.

He was part of the Rio Grande Fire Department for 55 years where he served as a firefighter and Assistance Fire Chief. He also served as a Republican Central Committee member for 35 years. He was an avid sports fan, he played ball for Bob Saunders “Quaker State Oilers” and loved Buckeye football, basketball, and the Cleveland Browns. He was involved with the annual Rio Grande bean dinner, only missing 1 year in 85 years.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Lupton Morgan whom he married on September 27, 1964, 2 sons: Rod Morgan and Scott (Jess) Morgan both of Rio Grande, sister: Jane Ann (Ed) Slagle of Gallipolis, brother: Dave (Helen Lou) Morgan of Gallipolis, sister-in-law: Brenda Morgan of Rio Grande and brother-in-law: Chuck (Shirley) Lupton of Heath, Ohio.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Thursday August 24, 2023 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Geiser officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyn Rhos Cemetery, where full Military Honors will be presented by the VFW #4464 Honor Guard. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 PM. to 7 PM. Visitation will conclude with the Fireman’s memorial service conducted by the Rio Grande Fire Department

Pall bearers will be: Danny Morgan, Tommy Morgan, Chris Slagle, Todd Lawson, Mark Hager, Dave Smalley, Matt Easter, and Tim Miller. Honorary Pall bearers will be: Pat Canaday, Robert Shaw, Bob Brandeberry, Del Russ, Derek Mackenzie and Olivia and the Rio Grande Fire Department,

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Rio Grande Fire Department or the Rio Grande Memorial Association.
