On the evening of October 22, 2022, James Paul Baird born March 19, 1939, left this world to receive his heavenly award at home with his wife of 63 years, Judy Kay (Cremeens) Baird at his side in Bradenton, Florida. He has battled MS for almost 40 years and beat cancer in 2010. God called him back peaceably.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Gallia Academy High School. He attended Ohio State University then married the love of his life on June 28, 1959. At that time he started the J & B Motors with his brother, Bob. He then moved to a partnership in the Gallipolis Auto Wrecking which was located where the Silver Bridge Shopping Center is now. In 1966, he sold his interest in the company and moved the family to the Plains to attend Ohio University, graduating with his BS degree in Civil Engineering. He proceeded to become a Professional Engineer and Professional Surveyor. Next, he was hired by the Ohio Department of Transportation in District 10. Following this, he was elected as the Gallia County Engineer and served for 16 years in that role until he retired in 1992. He also served on the Gallia County Board of Health until his health no longer allowed it.

He is preceded death by his parents Oscar and Madge (Ralston) Baird and daughter Pamela Dawn Baird.

He is survived by his wife Judy (Cremeens) Baird; children Greg & wife Chris Baird, Chillicothe, Tami & husband David Hocker, Bradenton, Florida, Jeffrey Baird, Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren Scott and wife Laura Baird, San Diego, California, Matthew & wife Meghan Baird, Wheelersburg, Brennon & wife Chelsie Hocker, Winter Springs, Florida, Melissa & Husband Chris Campbell, Gallipolis, Collin & wife Loren Hocker, Kissimmee, Florida: great-grandchildren Londyn Toler, Cooper Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, Henry Baird, and Dean Hocker; and brother Robert and wife Bonnie Baird, Marietta.

Calling hours will be held Friday, November 4th at the Cremeens-King Funeral Chapel, 75 Grape Street from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Good News Baptist Church, 4045 Georges Creek Road at 1 PM with calling hours beforehand at 12:00. Burial to follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Good News Baptist Church.
