James Gary “Gunner” Lane, 76, of Gallipolis, passed away, on Monday December 17th in Gainesville, Florida.

Gary was born in Gallipolis to Kermit and Edna Lane on January 17, 1942. A 1960 graduate of Gallia Academy High School, he played varsity basketball, football and baseball. Gary earned 7 letters and was All-SEOAL in all three sports. Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduation, Gary enlisted in the Army, serving overseas. He also attended Rio Grande College.

Gary worked for AEP for 38 years. He married Robin Niday Lane on August 18, 1977, in Pearisburg, VA. Gary was involved in the American Legion and Disable American Veterans. He was inducted into the GAHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. He attended the New Covenant Methodist Church, The Villages, Fl.

Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years, Robin (Niday) Lane of Gallipolis and The Villages, FL; children- Jamie (Lana) Lane of Gallipolis, Julie (Dave) Sydenstricker of Lebanon, TN, Joe (Wendy) Lane of Matthews, NC, Kaci (Stuart) Osborne of Hilliard, OH and Cody Lane of Hilliard, OH; sister Linda (Garry) Lewis of Gallipolis; grandchildren- Megan (Tommy) Saunders, Jodi Sydenstricker, Daniel Lane, Laney Osborne, Emily Lane, Elizabeth Lane & Lilly Osborne, and great-grandchild Emma Saunders; his father-in-law Wayne L. Niday (Ina Belle Sibley); and his best buddy and faithful dog, Shelby Grace.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Kermit R. and Edna P. (Miller) Lane; and his mother-in-law Juanita (Shaver) Niday.

To know him was to love him. Gary was one-of-a-kind, full of compliments and the best jokes. He leaves behind a host of family, friends and neighbors in Ohio and Florida who will dearly miss his mischievous smile and timeless wisdom.

Visitation will be Saturday December 29th from 11:00am - 1:30pm at Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis. Funeral services will immediately follow with Christian Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Arrangements are by Cremeens-King Funeral Home.
