Vernie Cuniese Byrd Doughty, 87, Cross Lanes, West Virginia, went with the angels to join her beloved husband, Wilford, at 5:50 P.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Arbors at Gallipolis.Vernie enjoyed listening to preachers and gospel music on TV. She was a member of the Nitro Church of God, Nitro, West Virginia and the Women's Missionary Circle. She was a homemaker who raised her children and also took care of some of her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafting and going to craft shoes with her husband, Wilford, as well as doing crosswords, word searches, puzzles and painting birds and flowers. One of her favorite things to do was taking broken things and making them new again. Vernie is survived by five children, Sally (Jim) Baker, of Sayre, PA, Debbie (Bob) Pegg, of Gallipolis, Azalea Boehm, of Texas, Wilma (David) Garbett, of Charleston, WV and Aaron (Joyce) Doughty, of Henderson, North Carolina, 12 Grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren,as well as seven step-siblings, Esther Warner, Angeline O'Dell, Pearl McWatters, Virginia Gay, Jimmy Byrd, Correnia Chapin and Henry Byrd. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilford D. Doughty, a daughter, Amy G. Doughty Anderson and a grandson,Adam Baker. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mary Sally Burdette Byrd and James E. Byrd, her step-mother, Virginia O. Thaxton Byrd, her sister, Dorothy Dalton Byrd, as well as nine step brothers and sisters.There will be a visitation on Monday, December 18, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at the Tyler Mountain Funeral Home & Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes where she will also be laid to rest. Officiating will be Rob VanFossen. Flowers can be sent to the Tyler Mountain Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, West Virginia 25313. Memorials may be made in Vernie's memory to the Nitro Church of God, 1517 15th Street, Nitro, West Virginia 25143. Local services were entrusted to the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis.
