Jerry Lee Dillon, 85, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born to Kermit and Gladys Dillon on September 18, 1937 in Barboursville, West Virginia. He was a graduate of Barboursville High School, served in the National Guard, and taught Sunday School at Hebron Baptist Church in Barboursville. Jerry met his wife, Judy, when they worked together at Evans Grocery in Gallipolis. Together, they joined Grace United Methodist Church, where Jerry served as an usher for many years.
He retired from the Shell/Goodyear/M&G Polymer Chemical Company after many decades of dedicated service. Jerry was also the chauffer for Mrs. O.O. (Maybelle) McIntyre from 1971 until her death. He was a quiet, hardworking man who enjoyed woodworking, sitting on the front porch, and spending time with his family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Ellen (McCallister) Dillon; father, Kermit Augustus Dillon; sisters, Mary Ann Gothard of Barboursville and Sharon Kaye Blake of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother, James Julian Dillon of Barboursville; brothers-in-law, Lyle Cleon Gothard and Larry Dale Fry, both of Barboursville and James “Jeep” Holley of Gallipolis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Judy (Holley) Dillon; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patti Fife of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; three granddaughters, Karli Fife, Misha Fife, and Abby Fife, husband Jesse Marques, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; three great grandchildren, Sophia Fife, Oaklynn Fife, and Dakota Fife, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; one sister, Susie Fry of Barboursville; one brother-in-law, John Blake of Charlotte, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was cared for in his final months by the wonderful team at Holzer Hospice, private caregivers, neighbors, and his nieces. His wife and son would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Brandy, Shelly, Natalie, Melanie, Kelsey, Victoria, Kelley, Robin, Karla, Patty, Linda, Brenda, Charlie, Lisa, Anise, and Lyla for all the compassion they displayed in the care they provided.
Services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 21, 2023 with Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Pine Street Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will conclude the day.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations be made in Jerry’s name to Holzer Hospice, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
