Jerry Charles Scott, 89, of New Haven, WV, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the Pleasant Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness.
He was born November 19, 1933, in Cheshire, OH, a son of the late Charles and Isis (Peters) Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Scott; son, Kevin Scott; sister, Janice Lucas and brother, Donald Scott.
Jerry was a 1951 graduate of Cheshire High School. He faithfully served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 140, New Haven. Jerry retired from the Maintenance Department at the Philip Sporn Power Plant with 38 years of service and attended New Haven United Methodist Church. He enjoyed living a simple life, going out to eat, dancing and clogging, and attending various sports events in support of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Matthew Scott and his wife, Tammy of Letart; daughter, Lesa Carpenter and her husband, Steve of New Haven; daughter-in-law, Vonda Scott of Pt. Pleasant; sister, Anita Fife of Cheshire, OH; grandchildren, Chris (Lana) Carpenter, Gabe Scott, Josh Carpenter (Jamie Leonard), Matt Scott II (Julie Harris), Quentin Scott, Jourdan (Tyler) Moore, Madyson Scott; step-grandchildren, Andrew Layton and Bradley Layton; 14 great grandchildren and special friend, Suzannah Lewis of West Columbia.
Service will be 1 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2023, at Foglesong-Casto Funeral Home, Mason, WV, with Pastor Brian May officiating. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 140, New Haven, V.F.W. Post 9926, Mason, WV, and American Legion Post 0039, Pomeroy, OH will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Letart, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until time of service on Friday, at the funeral home.
