Walter Richard ‘Dick’ Brown age 82 of Gallipolis, died Wednesday morning February 15, 2023 at Holzer Senior Care. Born August 19, 1940 in Xenia, Ohio and the family moved to Gallipolis when Dick was 9 years old. son of the late Waldo and Eva Simbro Brown, in addition to his parents, Dick was preceded by his wife, Maureen Coughlin Brown who he married in 1960, she preceded him in 2014 and by a half-brother, Paul Brown.
Dick was a 1958 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and a 1962 graduate of the Ohio State University. In 1964 he joined his father’s insurance business that his father started in 1951, Dick retired in 1998 as a Nationwide Insurance Agent.
He served for many years on the Gallia County Fair Board and was President in 1975-1976. His memberships included the Blue Devil Boosters, Gallipolis Shrine Club, Gallipolis Elks Lodge and the Jaycees. He was inducted into the 4H Hall of Fame.
Dick enjoyed golfing and traveling, which rightfully he became known as a “World Traveler” including 93 cruises, which was shy of his goal of 100. He also enjoyed working and was a talented woodworker, creating many beautiful rooms and projects for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wasch Brown whom he married on December 3, 2016 and she became his strongest advocate and supporter during his illness. 2 sons, Daniel (Mashell) Brown and Douglas (Terri) Brown, a grandson, Andrew (McKenzie) Brown, a great granddaughter, Clara Brown, step son, Adam (Mabrie Davis) Wasch, step daughter, Ashley (Zack) Ruff, 5 step grandchildren, Tristan, Liam and Arlo Ruff, McKenze (Luke) Watts and Sydney (Hunter) Terry, 1 step great grandson, Oakley Terry and by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, John and Linda Sager.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gallipolis Shrine Club or to the Gallia County Fairgrounds in Dick’s memory.
