Text

Steven Lee Durst of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2023, after a long fight with COPD. He was born November 20, 1948, in Point Pleasant, WV to Marie (Gibeaut) Durst Auclair and raised by his loving grandparents Henry and Madeline (Roush) Gibeaut, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by half-siblings, Keith “Richard” Chapman and Sue Johnson, as well as many close family members and special friends including Lynn Robinson, Edie (Steve) Blosser, James (Kayla) Blosser, Alex Blosser, Elizabeth Schmidt, Pansy Robinson, Cheryl Addis, Donald (Greta) Plants, and Brittany Logan; "adopted" grandchildren Christopher "CJ" Robinson and Caylie Monrraga-Robinson. He was preceded in death by his cousin and best friend, Eugene "Whitey" Robinson and his beloved dog, Alph.

Steve worked as a carpenter and handyman for many years and enjoyed helping people anywhere he could. Maybe he missed a calling though, because if there was one thing he could do, it was making people laugh. Steve was an inquisitive person who loved random trivia. He and Alph loved taking long trips on his motorcycle - often to New Orleans, where he enjoyed jambalaya & crawfish. Steve was our "Diamond in the Rough." He is loved very much and will be missed by his many family and friends.

According to his wishes, Steve's earthly remains will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. In lieu of services or flowers, Steve wished for those desiring to celebrate his life to do so by enjoying time with their closest loved ones. Donations in his memory can be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund online at www.HeartlandHospiceFund.org/Donate. Contributions to his final expenses can be made to Willis Funeral Home of Gallipolis.
