Janice Margine Church Layne, 95, of Gallipolis, OH passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the home of her daughter Carol Brown in Pittsburgh, PA. Janice was born in Tipp City, OH on December 1, 1927, to Wayne Carroll and Henrietta Bugg Church. She was a strong woman of faith as a life-long member of First Baptist Church serving in many capacities throughout the years. She also managed Faith Book Shop for 17 years and served the Gallia County community as curator of the Our House Museum for several years. She was an avid volunteer throughout her life working with children and enjoyed sewing and reading.

Janice was married to Calvin Eugene Layne for 50 years; and he preceded her in death on April 3, 1996. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Wayne Carroll, II and Harold Richard, her mother and father- in-law, Charles Layne and Emily Montgomery Layne and son-in-law Wayne Thompson.

Janice is survived by her children, son, Gary (Kathy) Layne of Ten Mile, TN; son David Layne of High Point, NC; daughter Nanci Thompson of Dayton, OH, daughter Ruth Stroop of Greensboro, NC, daughter, Emily Layne of Gallipolis, and daughter Carol (Mark) Brown of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by grandchildren Christopher Layne, Jessica Bennett, Julie Riley, Anastasia Brown, Brittany Puentes, Jeremy Bennett, Kristen Stroop, and Tomi Neese; and great grandchildren, Dedric Silva, Hannah Bennett, Eren Riley, Isabella Layne, Ava Stroop, Judah Riley, and Jesenia Puentes. She is also survived by one sister, Marjorie Eloise Church Louks of Columbus, OH and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Janice will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Willis Funeral Home, with Pastor Aaron Young and Pastor Marc Sarrett officiating. Her burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday.
