Gilbert Eugene Henry, Sr., 88, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his residence. He was born on October 4, 1935 in Gallipolis, Ohio, son of the late Edward and Ada Cox Henry.
Gilbert served in the United States Army and retired from Empire Furniture Stores after 50 years of employment. He had attended Faith Valley Church and Kings Chapel. In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by his former wife and best friend, Ima Jean Henry; a grandson, Ayden Lee Henry; daughter-in-law, Debbie Porter Henry; two brothers, John Dray and Harold Dray; and three sisters, Emma Dray Moodispaugh, Betty Siders, and Mary Siders.
Gilbert is survived by his loving companion, Emily Spires of Gallipolis, Ohio; three sons, Gilbert E. Henry, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Robert W. Henry (Tiffany Litchfield) of Apple Grove, West Virginia, and Matthew W. (Missy) Henry of Gallipolis, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Tiffany Shae Porter of Pt. Pleasant, Robbie (Sierra) Henry of Havelock, North Carolina, Ryan Henry of Pt. Pleasant, Mandy Henry and Caitlyn Henry both of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua (Jayla) Henry of Crown City and Caleb (Lexi) Henry of Gallipolis, Sierra Henry of Ashton, West Virginia, Kierra Henry of Bidwell, and Ava Henry of Apple Grove; eight great grandchildren, Trevon, Brylon, Weston and Mazlon McMillan all of Pt. Pleasant, Colson McQueen of Ashton, WV, Tatum and Fallon Henry of Crown City, and Echo Henry of Pt. Pleasant; two sisters, Jean Johnson of Gallipolis and Bonnie Henry Reynolds of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The funeral for Gilbert will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 11, 2024 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastors Mark Dunlap and Joe Woodall officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Creek Cemetery. Military honors will be given at the graveside by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Trevon McMillan, Ryan Henry, Josh Henry, Caleb Henry, Rand Clark, and Matt Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Henry, Jr. and Robert Henry.
The family would like to thank Gilbert's PCP Brianne Willis, the nursing staff at Holzer 2 West, and Heartland Hospice.
