Simon Johnson, 87, of Pomeroy, passed away, at 6:23 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. Born February 24, 1936, in Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia. The retired from Foote Mineral in New Haven, after 31 years of service. He was a huge Cincinnati Red’s fan and loved to bowl. After his retirement he enjoyed helping his daughter on her trash route.
He is survived by his children, Mary (Jim) Perdue, of Point Pleasant, WV., Robert (Sandy) Johnson, of Peebles, Oh., Sharon (Charlie) Keeder, of East Liverpool, Oh., and Andrea Doerfer, of Pomeroy. Ten grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, a brother, Eddie Johnson, of Point Pleasant, special brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence and Jessie Might and David Might, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Ellen Johnson, whom preceded him on August 12, 2020, his daughter, Peggy Yost, grandchildren, Donald Yost Jr., and Brandon Johnson, a brother, Billy Johnson, sisters, Jenny, Sarah, and Marcelene.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Friday.
