Susan “Suzie” Francis Groves, 48, of Pomeroy, passed to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 10th, 2024 at Ohio State University East Hospital (Columbus). She was surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her passing.
Suzie was a 1993 graduate of Eastern High School in Reedsville, Ohio. Suzie spent her early career as a florist working in the family business. She was a graduate of the Hixson School of Floral Design (Cleveland) holding master level certifications in many aspects of the florist trade. In 2007, Suzie married her husband Kenny, the love of her life and relocated to the St. Albans, WV area where she served as the director of Gateway Christian Education Center (Gateway Christian Church, St. Albans), while earning an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Under her leadership, the center grew tremendously and she was asked to serve on the WV Governor’s Taskforce for Daycare and Early Child Development Centers.
In addition to her professional undertakings, Suzie spent many years in ministry. Suzie was always ready to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone, but she had a particular passion for youth and women’s ministry. She had previously served as the Youth Minister at Bethel Church (Tuppers Plains), led missionary trips to both domestic and foreign places, and served in so many other capacities wherever the Lord would place her. In all things, Suzie sought to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus. Suzie’s life was representative of what Jesus spoke of in Matthew 25:37-40: “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”
Suzie was passionate about her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend. Her warmth and joy were contagious and she was loved by more people than could be counted. In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus says “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven”. Suzie’s light always shown for those that she met.
Suzie is survived by her loving Husband of 17 years, Kenneth “Kenny” Groves, her two daughters Chloee and Sandra, her stepson Hunter, her parents Bill and Jo Ann Francis, her father- and mother-in law Ken and Phyllis Groves, her brothers Bill M. (Aimee) and Andrew (Kimi), her nieces Olivia, Reagan, and Charlotte, many uncles, aunts, cousins, and more friends than can be counted.
A celebration of Suzie’s life will be held at Bethel Church, 39782 OH-7
Reedsville, OH 45772 on Saturday, June 29th @ 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Groves Memorial Fund . For information regarding donations, contact Bethel Church by phone @ 740-667-6793
