David Jay Jenkins Sr., 88, of Middleport, Ohio, went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on July 15, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed watching the deer, foxes, and other wildlife at the feeder outside his living room window.

He was born on June 24, 1937, in York, Alabama, and graduated from York High School. Jay worked for AT&T/Ohio Bell for nearly 45 years.

He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Gallipolis, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Ruth Chase Jenkins; daughter, Beth James; parents, Hattie and J.B. Jenkins; in-laws, Harold and Ouida Chase; brothers, James and William Jenkins; sisters, Christine Barker and Irene Dean; grandson, Kendall Jay Jenkins; sister-in-law, Frances Coleman; brothers-in-law, Cliff Coleman, Gerald Anthony, Ray Lieving, and Harold Young; and nephew, Joe Anthony.

He is survived by his son Steve (Donna) Jenkins of Rutland, Ohio; son David Jay (Alisha) Jenkins Jr. of Chesapeake, Ohio; sister Betty Barrett of West Columbia, Texas; sister-in-law Dorothy Anthony of Middleport, Ohio; nephew Jim (Dianna) Jenkins of Cullman, Alabama; and his son-in-law Daniel James of Ypsilanti, Michigan.

He was “PawPaw” to his beloved grandchildren: Gabe (Brook) Jenkins of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; Sarah Dawn (Jeremy) Roush of Pomeroy, Ohio; Caleb Jenkins of Seymour, Tennessee; D.J. (Kristen) James of Westland, Michigan; and Aimee Alteri James of West Chester, Ohio.

Great-grandchildren include: Hope and Grady Jenkins, Ellie and Trace Roush, Jaylynn Jenkins, Benjamin Jenkins, Leia James, and Lilly and Violet Alteri.

He was Uncle David to many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Middleport, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following, officiated by Pastors Aaron Young, Nathan DuPont, and Marc Sarrett of First Baptist Church in Gallipolis. A graveside service will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jay’s name to First Baptist Church or Ohio Valley Christian School, 1100 4th Avenue, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
