John Krawsczyn, Jr., 74, of Pomeroy, Ohio, passed away on June 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on November 23, 1951, to John Krawsczyn, Sr. and Billie Jo (Houchins) Krawsczyn, John spent his life dedicated to education, athletics, family, and his community. He spent his childhood in Middleport, Ohio and was a proud member of the graduating class of Meigs High School in 1969, where he also served as the school's first class president. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio University in 1973, beginning a lifelong career of shaping the lives of young people.

John devoted 34 years to teaching special education, beginning at the Carlton School before spending the majority of his career at Meigs Junior High School and Meigs High School. He believed deeply in the potential of every student and worked tirelessly to help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

In addition to his work as an educator, John was a beloved coach and mentor. He served as head golf coach at Meigs High School for 17 years, leading his teams to numerous sectional, district, and league championships. He also coached junior high football and track, leaving a lasting impact on generations of student-athletes through his leadership, encouragement, and steady example. In recognition of his many contributions to his school and community, he was named a Meigs High School Distinguished Alumnus in 2011.

John found great joy in opportunities to bring family and friends together. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, golf caddy, life long Cleveland Browns fan, devoted Ohio University men's basketball fan and season ticket holder for more than 30 years, proud supporter of River City Players, and a Broadway in Columbus season ticket holder for 24 years. In his retirement, he found purpose working at Powell’s Food Fair, attending his grandchildren’s performances and tournaments, watching movies and reading at home. He spent his final months at his dream job, working for his son-in-law, Mitchell, at Riverside Golf Club.

John cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Celia McCoy; his children, Adam (Claire) Krawsczyn, Erin (Mitchell Roush) Krawsczyn, and Andi (Jonathan) Evans. One of his most treasured roles in life was being Pappy to his grandchildren Mary Grace (23), Grant (18), Henry (12), Charlie (10), AJ (10), and Lena (6), who brought laughter, loyalty, and fun to his life.

He is survived by his siblings, David (Jennifer) Krawsczyn, Mary (David) Price, Marty (Donnie) Unrein, and Sam (Tammy) Little; his sisters-in-law, Iris Smith, Edna Orr, and Julia (Les) Cochran; and special family, Renee and Ross Stewart. In addition, numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Krawsczyn, Sr. and Billie Jo Krawsczyn; his father-in-law, I.O. McCoy; his brother-in-law, Byron McCoy; and his dearly loved Aunt Wilma Hall and Uncle Steve Houchins.

John's legacy lives on through the thousands of students he taught, the athletes he coached, the friends he encouraged, and the family he loved. He taught many people what it means to love and show up through challenges and triumphs. He will be remembered for his kindness, quiet witness, and commitment to the communities he was a part of.
