Nancy Sue Grueser, of Shade, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 7, 2026, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Nancy led a life of service to the Lord, her family, and her friends.
Nancy married Mark, the love of her life, in 1963, and together they raised their family on a dairy farm, which they owned and operated for more than 45 years. An avid gardener, home canner, seamstress, and caretaker of livestock, she enthusiastically supported local 4-H programs, Scouting, and every activity in which her children and grandchildren participated. Later in life, Nancy enjoyed traveling with her family, exploring the western United States and many of its National Parks. Nancy was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Return Jonathan Meigs Chapter. She attended First Baptist Church and later Sacred Heart Catholic Church, both in Pomeroy.
Nancy and Mark also served their community as foster parents for numerous children through Athens County Children Services, where they were honored as Foster Parents of the Year. Nancy also worked as a telephone switchboard operator for Ohio Bell before later working at the Athens Mental Health Center at The Ridges.
Nancy was born on February 19, 1944, in Middleport, Ohio.
She is survived by her children, Michael A. & Amy E. Grueser of Temecula, California, and Anna J. Grueser of Powell, Ohio; her grandchildren, Kailey M., Ethan M., and Madison C. Grueser, all of Temecula, California; her brother, George E. (Diana M.) Skinner of Garrettsville, Ohio; her nephews, Daniel E. Skinner of Windham, Ohio, and Timothy B. Skinner (Kristina) of Streetsboro, Ohio; Daniel’s children, Wyatt J., Hunter L., and Amelia R. Skinner of Windham, Ohio; her brothers-in-law, Max (Barbara) Grueser, Matthew (Florence) Grueser, and Malcolm (Peggy) Grueser; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Anthony Grueser; her parents, George Edward and Phyllis Jeanne Horden Skinner; and her brother, Benjamin Horden Skinner, and many in-laws.
Nancy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, and quiet dedication to her family and community. Her kindness, strength, and selfless spirit touched countless lives and will continue to be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy on Friday, July 10, from 4PM-8PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 1PM, with burial immediately following at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Pomeroy, and reception to follow.
