Billie Jo Houchins Krawsczyn passed away at her home in Middleport, Ohio, on September 26, 2022, one day after turning 93 years old. She was widely known throughout the community as a kind, generous and faithful woman and was dearly loved by those that called her Mom, Nannan, Sister, Aunt Jo and friend. She spent her entire life in service to others and graced the lives of so many with her gift of unconditional love.
She was born in Lookout, West Virginia, the daughter of William C. “Bill” Houchins and Jessie Virginia Bostic Houchins. She graduated from Vinton High School and relocated to Middleport, Ohio with her husband, John Krawsczyn, Sr. in the 1950s. She spent many years as the neighborhood mom, devoted grandma, receptionist and face of the Meigs Vet Clinic (retiring at the age of 83), dedicated cook to the Middleport Rotary Club and long-time member of the Heath United Methodist Church.
Her greatest joy in life was cooking for others. She hosted her first Thanksgiving with her siblings and their spouses in 1951 - a tradition that continued for nearly 70 years and grew to include their numerous children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She spent every Sunday in her kitchen where she would prepare a home cooked meal and listen to any story that her family wanted to tell. She was the matriarch to her large family and led them with laughter, compassion and love.
Billie Jo lovingly cared for so many throughout her lifetime and that goodness was returned to her in her final years by the service of her loyal caregiver and companion, Kay Mitchem. The family will be forever grateful for Kay’s love and dedication that kept Nannan with us for a little bit longer.
She is survived by her brother and best friend, Stephen Houchins; her adoring children, John (Celia McCoy) Krawsczyn, Jr., W. David (Jennifer) Krawsczyn, Mary (David) Price, Martha Jo (Donnie) Unrein and Sam (Tammy) Little; the apples of her eye - her grandchildren: Adam (Claire) Krawsczyn, Erin (Mitch Roush) Krawsczyn, Andi (Jonathan) Evans, Christopher (Kassandra Lodwick) Krawsczyn, John (Nina) Krawsczyn, Matthew (Emily) Krawsczyn, Josh (Lindsey) Price, Jesse (Tayler) Price, Garrett (Becky) Swanberg, Derrick (Shelbie) Unrein, Chad (Kelly) Unrein, Emily Jo (Dillan) Retting, Jenna Arnold and Maggie (Zach) Taylor; her precious great-grandchildren: AJ & Lena Jo Krawsczyn, Mary Grace & Grant Roush, Henry & Charlie Evans, Dallas, Lindsay & Kalijah Krawsczyn, Jensen Krawsczyn, Alina & Maximus Krawsczyn, Georgia, Robert Jackson, Virginia & Everest Jo Price, Avett Price, Andrew, Isaac, Ella, Tessa Jo & Silas Swanberg, Kai, Addalyn & Eli Unrein, Nolan & Mila Jo Unrein, Penelope Jo Retting, Anna Grace & Charlotte Arnold and Palmer Jane Taylor; and several devoted nieces and nephews who visited her faithfully.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Krawsczyn, Sr. , her sister and brother-in-law, Wilma & Calvin Hall, and her sister-in-law, Vicki Houchins.
Friends and family may call from 11am to 1pm on Friday, September 30, 2022 at the Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Middleport, Ohio with funeral service to follow at 1 pm with Pastor Rebecca Zurcher and Pastor Will Luckeydoo officiating. Burial will follow at Meigs Memorial Gardens in Pomeroy, Ohio.
