Harold O. Brooks
Surrounded by family, Harold Owen Brooks, 89, passed away at home, Monday, May 29, 2023. Harold was born May 7, 1934 to the late Raymond Brooks, Sr. and Clarice Carpenter Brooks.

Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Perry Brooks, sons Roy (Karen) Brooks, Luke (Susie) Brooks, Brad (Cheryl) Brooks, daughter Wendy (John) Coen, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister Rose Ellen Koker, and a brother Carl (Louise) Brooks. He is also survived by long time friends Tom Lykins and Bud Laport, a special niece Joyce Bobo, a daughter-in-law Carolyn Brooks, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by son, Dean Brooks, sister, Cledyth Mahaffey, and brothers Raymond Brooks Jr. and Robert Brooks.
After graduating from Athens High School, Harold worked for the Forestry Division in Idaho for 6 months. He then served 3 years in the Marine Corps. Once discharged Harold came back to Ohio and was employed by Columbia Gas Company, Coca Cola Bottling Company and later retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail clerk.
Harold was a dedicated family man. He often said he had a lot of things in life to be thankful for, but he was most thankful for his family. He never missed a chance to support his grandchildren exhibiting animals at local fairs and/or cheering them on at sporting events. Harold was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting elk in Wyoming and Colorado. He also treasured hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren “back on the hill”. He loved going on walks with his dog or a family member. An amiable bee keeper, Harold gladly shared his bee keeping knowledge with many through the years. He appreciated good conversations on the porch enjoying a cup of coffee and a homemade cookie. Harold will be deeply missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
Per Harold’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or OhioHealth Hospice in memory of Harold.
