Larry Eugene Dailey, 85, of Gallipolis, Ohio has gone on to be with his Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Larry was born to Wylie and Avis Dailey on April 10, 1937 in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Portsmouth, Ohio. As a studious and intuitive young man, he always sought the deeper meaning of family, his studies, and current events. Along with his brother Leroy, he worked in the family store during his childhood and was very close to his little sister Judy Ann Dailey Lett. Larry graduated Portsmouth High School in 1955 and went on to attend Ohio University. While a senior at PHS, Larry met his greatest blessing and love of his life, Shirley Ann Keibler who lived in South Shore, Kentucky, while they both worked at the HL Green Department Store. They married after their senior year and shortly after started their family with the birth of their first son, Larry Roger in 1956, whereby Larry went to work at the N&W and Chesapeake Railroad.
Larry settled his family in Gallipolis, Ohio and was employed by Kaiser/Century Aluminum for more than 43 years and a member of the United Steel Workers. He became a Charter Pilot and Flight Instructor for over 20 years. During this time, Larry and Shirley expanded their family with the second son, Ricky Donavan in 1960 and third son, Mark Randall in 1963. Larry was not only a great family man but was also a man of strong faith, an exemplary employee, and had a sense of humor that was a blessing to all. He coached sports teams for his sons and was very active in the First Church of God where he taught Sunday School for over 25 years, worked with the youth program, and served on the board and various committees. Throughout his life, Larry always put others and their needs first and lead by example. He took time for them and mentored with great wisdom and insight. In personal matters, Larry was an avid reader on all topics, was a sports enthusiast, and always enjoyed his family.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Wylie and Avis Dailey; his older brother, Leroy Dailey; nephew, David Dailey; and brother-in-law, Robert Lett. Larry is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Shirley Dailey; sons, Roger (Louise) of Uniontown, Ohio, Rick of Hilliard, Ohio, and Randy (Angie) of Allen, Texas; bonus daughter, Jacqueline Sanders Hatfield; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Gael), Lisa (Ryan) Burgess, Kara, Eric, Ian, Victoria, Heather, and Kendra; bonus grandchildren, Evan and Cole Hatfield; sister, Judy Lett; and sister-in-law, Mildred Dailey.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at First Church of God with Pastor Nathan Cain and Pastor Dustin Cobble officiating. Entombment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. Friends may call prior to the service on Friday from 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the church located at 1723 State Route 141, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
