Ethel Virginia Saunders, 89, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at home.
Born on April 4, 1934, Gallia County, Ohio, Ethel was the daughter of the late Omar McClellan Saunders and Eugenia Wright Saunders. She graduated from Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis, Ohio. Ethel married William Jackson Saunders in 1954, and he preceded her in death in 1999. She was a homemaker who raised six children and was a babysitter for many young children. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Ethel is survived by daughter, Connie (Gary) Clarke; son, Kevin Saunders; son, James (Harla) Saunders; son, Kent (Kim) Saunders; and daughter, Cheryl (Chuck) Rife, all of Gallipolis. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a niece raised in her childhood home, Janice Kay Sweesy; sisters-in-law, Jenny Saunders, Corena Saunders, and Patty Davis all of Gallipolis, and Becky (Tom) Carr of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Virginia Burns in 2007; her three brothers, Garland (Marie) Saunders, Herman Saunders, and Albert Saunders; and her six sisters, Marie (Lewis) Slagle, Fern (Oran) Henry, Olive (Merrill) Brown, Beulah (Allen) Stone, Grace (Jim) Funk, and Louise Saunders.
Services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, Ohio at 1:00 pm with Pastor Pete Allinder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallia County, Ohio.
Pallbearers are Kevin Saunders, James Saunders, Kent Saunders, Gary Clarke, Chuck Rife, and Kaleb Patten.
